Attempting to check the fuel pressure on a 2001 stock cummins with about 65000 miles. We pulled the schreader valve out at the VP44 and attached a pressure gauge, but then would not start. tried bleading the guage as well as poor fuel down the line that goes to the guage, still no luck. it seems the LP is not pushing fuel at all. My smarty didn't pick up any codes. Are we doing something wrong or do we have a bad LP? everything is running fine, just decided to check fuel pressure to be sure. Any help would be appreciated.

If you bump the starter the LP should run for 25-30 secs. If you do that a couple times and do not get fuel, then yes your LP has gone south. SNOKING

yeah, you can hear it run after bumping the starter, but dont seem to get any fuel after bumping the starter or when cranking the motor. I assumed the LP must be bad, but wanted to get another oppinion. thanks.

What I have seen happen is the LP dies and the VP draws enough fuel to run. Until you open the schrader valve then air is drawn in. Pretty common actually.
