OK, I got the fuel pressure gauge in, and have been getting a reading of 11 at idle, cruising down the road (empty) 8-9, and WOT, the lowest it goes is to 5. Tell me what you think. Too low, normal, for those of you that have the gauges, are the numbers in the normal range ? I am going to the FASS system in the spring, but was curious as what others are running for pressure. Thanks Don

I think for a stock truck you're running a little low, a sign that the Lp is on it's way out, keep an eye on it.

when i bought my truck (86k) it was 7 - 2 - neg, now with a new mopar pump it is 16-12-10, i ordered mine from the local dodge garage ... they told me they didn't keep 'em in stock because there had been "a bunch of upgrades" from the original # and they didn't want to have any "old ones" on the shelf

That dealer story is BS. The current 3990105 pump has been out since ~5/01.

Don't buy em from the dealer anyway, unless you want to pay ~twice $$. (not a dig on you, 2boke2smoke)

There is a thread about a email reply on lp's from Cummins that says there have lp upgrades over the years. However I do not get the impression that there are ongoing redesigning happening.

Probably when 03's came out the lp redesigning stopped if not before.

I am keeping the OEM lp bypass valve closed at all times. There are a lot of threads that lean toward most of the lp failures stem from the lp bypass valve. I put a Mallory 4307M after the lp and adjusted it for 12 psi. VP gets a rock steady 10 - 12 depending on go pedal.

24V-DSL: When I got my lift pump from the dealer (10/28/03) the part number was 05015723AC. The "AC" part of it tell me it's been revised a couple times.

I get 16 PSI at idle with the new Mopar pump also.

Just for clarification, not to argue.

The lift pump is a Cummins part #3990105, that D/C also sells under their own numbering system.

I bought my 3990105 in May of 01 and paid $145. That P/N is still current, but I haven't rechecked pricing.

My local Dodge dealer wants $240 for the 05015723AC.

I was just trying to alert TDR members who don't know that Cummins is a cheaper source.

you can get all the digs you want 24v:D as long as you save me money when you do it ... the dealership charged me 150. xx including tax ... . they also just handed me the diagnostic tool when i told them they had to enable the cold weather high idle ... they just looked at me at me with one of those  looks and said "here ya go do it yourself" took all of two minutes ... then they asked "so what does that do anyway?"

24V-DSL: Thanks for the clarification. I wondered if it was the Carter number or Cummins number you referenced. Either way, it sounds like it hasn't been updated since 05/01. :(

One of the nice things about these trucks is that you CAN get parts from other sources, like Cummins. Peace of mind when you're in the more wide-open parts of the country... where there's more likely to be a tractor dealer around who can help than a auto dealership that can work on diesels. Oo.

I just bought a 3990105 cummins pump at the local Peterbuilt dealer for $138. Just walked in no hagleing, they also had fleetguard stratapore oil filters dont have number with me but they were $8. 75 and fuel filters for a 00 were $11. 75. The guy at the counter said that he see more Dodge guy stoppin by weekley! They get a healthy discount from cummins.
