Fuel Pressure Sender

I have a Stewart-Warner fuel pressure gage and sender. I installed the sender on the post filter test port. The first sender lasted 2 days. I took it back and got another one under warrenty. The second one lasted two months. Took the second one back and now have a third one. I am thinking of mounting this one under the fuel filter with the modified banjo bolt that has the 1/8" npt in it. Will it survive there or should I mount it on the firewall and use a hose?

I've had the Stewart Warner setup for about 6 months with no problems The sender is installed in the same place as yours.

Had nothing but problems with mine until I mounted it remotly. No problems since then.

I agree with CRamsey. I worked in instrumentation for years and mounting any brand of pressure sensor directly to the engine is asking for trouble... way too much vibration.

Both of my fuel pressure sending units are remote mounted using Ray's banjo bolts and stainless steel braided hoses (overkill, but it sure looks neat!) Heck, I'm even using stainless steel braided hose for my boost line.

I've got a good friend that went through 3 SW senders until he finally mounted it remotely. Not only do you have the engine vibrations, but you have the "waterhammer" effect from the injection pump when mounting directly. Use one of Ray's tapped banjo bolts on the bottom of the filter and use a grease hose extension (1/8"-NPT) to mount the sender remotely. I attached mine to the brake master cylinder bolt.

Picked up the third sender from the distributor this a. m. decided to check it out,before I installed it. It was bad out of the box. Called Stewart Warner and talked to there Tech. person and Quality control. I am returning it directly to them.

Seems the SW senders are taking a dump quickly, good advice to mount remotely. My SPA sender is still holding strong on a direct mount to a post filter pressure port fitting on a Aeroquip line, so far so good. Before I had it in this location, the sender spent 4 months pre filter, same set up. I spoke with Brandon about this as he has installed around 18 or so SPA senders in this manner, no failures yet. Not knocking the SW set up here, just letting the SPA users know of my findings.

Steve St. Laurent has his SW senders mounted remotely. I have my AutoMeter sending unit mounted remotely. Only makes sense, given the amount of engine vibration.

Here's how I mounted my sending units. There's a bracket on the master brake unit that holds brake lines in place. I fashioned a bracket that mounts to that bracket. The sending units are out of the way and have worked great all summer and 15k miles.
