I just installed a fuel pressure gauge on my 1999 yesterday the pressure sender is in the filter housing after the filter when i start it i have 14psi normal driving i have around 10-12psi but if i stand on the throttle it will drop to 1-2psi let off and it will only come back up to around 4-5psi is my lift pump dieing or is there just maybe something i did wrong installing the gauge

When you stand on the pedal (wot) the pressure is going to go down. Your pressure at idle is OK but I think your pressure driving/wot is to low. I would say your lift pump is on its last leg.

But I don't have a fuel pressure guage on my trucks.

Obviously double check with another gauge first.

But, this is the most common type of pump failure. Often, the pressure will drop to 4-5 psi and stay there. Sometimes you can stand on the throttle for a couple of seconds and release and the pressure will rebound to 10-15psi. If this is the case, the lift pump bypass is sticking open. Replace ASAP or better yet, upgrade!

I have had the same problem, but with a new lift pump. I bought one from Oriellys auto and it idles around 18psi then maintains around 12-14 running. I replaced the sending unit and that may have fixed the problem. I have an 02 with the sending unit connected to a hose that is bolted on to the injector pump. What do you think? Thanks.
