I was just driving normally at 30mph and my fuel gauge plumits to 0 and the truck would hardly run. So I turned into a parking lot and before I stopped to turn it off the gauge went back up to normal. My gauge usually flickers up and down very quickly but after the episode the gauge was normal (no flickering).

I headed out again to try to get home and 1/2 mile down the road it does it again exept it sputters worse. And this time it would not start up. So I keep turning the key over and I hear my pusher pump turning on but it sounds dry. The truck finally got pressure again with me turning the key over but the p-pump kept buzzing and finally stopped.

On the way home I stopped and got some diesel thinking it got some bad diesel. I got home finally and the truck built pressure normally all the way home. When I got there I turned it off and on and it started up normal.

What do yall think is wrong with the truck? The original lift pump has been out for awhile now. At idle the fuel gauge reads 26lbs, at cruise it is around 23-24lbs and at WOT I can't get it below 15lbs.

I need the help bad. :(

Thanks, Daniel

I thought on fuel prussure it's More the Marrier. The p-pump is the only one running. Man when the original lift pump was working at idle was at 29psi plus.

Nope...

VP-44 does not like more than 15-18 psi from what all I have soaked up on these boards over the years. STEADY 15-18psi is the ticket.

Big problem

I must have a big problem. Today I put a new Holly p-pump in the back with a regulator and it is still not running. I can hear the lift pumps come on when I turn the key over. After I stop cranking the engine I can hear both lift pumps still running for about 20 seconds. I have never heard that, before this. And the fuel gauge still shows zero psi.

So I thought I had air in the line, so I loosen 4 lines connected to the head and cranked it up and finally fuel started gushing out. Then I tightened them to started her up, and it ran for a minute then ran out of fuel.

So what do you think? I am in a big bind this time. Please HELP.

You must have a gauge problem also. 29psi with just a stock lift pump is unheard of. Hopefully your injection pump didn't go south. Check for codes.

You may have something blocking the fuel pick-up in the tank. Can you bypass the pusher pump and just use the stock LP? Sometimes too much suction from the P-pump will suck something in front of the fuel pick-up and cause a blockage that will shut you down... ... Good luck, Jim

I just put a new p-pump on today w/ a regulator set at 14psi. thinking it went out. My p-pump is wired to my original lift pump so it makes both buzz after I crank it up. If my front pump is out will it affect my back pump if there wire together?
