I checked my fuel pressure 2 days ago using use the fuel pressure checker I got from Genos Garage. When the truck first starts I get around 14psi. When the engine runs for about 10-15 sec the pressure drops to 0. If I start the engine and then rev it to around 2k the pressure stays at 14psi until I let the engine idle. I assume my lift pump is dead???

At start up i get 15/16, just sitting there revving it drops maybe 2/4 psi. At full throttle making lots of smoke it drops to 8/9, so i would say it's dead... . im on my 4th pump with 74k. I always have one with me... ...

Hey, High Voltage, I'm curious about your pump situation. Do you frequently run your fuel tank very low? I have only twice in 117,000 miles and have replaced the pump just once at 104,000. I have been looking for data about fueling habits to see if pump cavitation might be the cause of pump failures.

WestTN, I am thinking the same thing. I have had 2 pump failures and both were noticed after running the tank VERY low, like 10 miles left on the DTE indicator, a couple of times. So low that i actually lost fuel pressure and then regained it once I put fuel back in the tank. I put one on at 89k and just put one on at 129k. Hope this helps... ... Chris

After I changed my third LP, I said it was time for an Airdog. I have never run the tank less than quarter full, and even that was quite rare. The OEM LPs are just junk. I should have invested the money earlier, it would have been a lot cheaper.

You need FASS. You have preformance up grades and your still asking that whimpy Lift pump to supply your VP44. I have a fass and its 20-22 psi idle and 17-19 wide open!

WestTN, I almost always run it down tell the fuel light comes on, have never seen a drop in fuel pressure. When filling I would put in only 27 to 30 gal of fuel, leaving 5 to 6 gallons left. this last pump is over two years old, it's been one of the better one's.
