Can anyone advise on what the fuel pressure should be and how dependable the lift pump is on a 2004. 5 Ram, I do have several modifications I have done to the truck and just finished installing a fuel pressure gauge, the location I tapped into is on the fuel filter cap (filter side), the pressure is at 8 lbs. at an idle, when I turn everything up and really get into the throttle, the pressure drops to 5. 5 lbs, I know the bigger the injectors the lower the fuel pressure. I was told two different stories, one is that the pump in my truck is very dependable and it was the earlier trucks that had the problem (told by dealer), the other is that I should install a FASS Fuel System, so, all that being said should I be concerned? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I had an 04. 5 and that was the last year they put the pumps external before putting them in the tank. I read over and over on here about guys losing the pump anywhere from 15,000-100,000. . Mine picked a happy medium and quit me at 62,000 about 5 miles from home... Towed to dealer and they had me out the next day with the in tank retrofit...

Original LP on mine made it too 161k, decided to quit on the side of the 210 outside L. A. toowing a 48' Hi cube container... . fun times !

I just installed a fuel pressure gauge and it reads about 7. 5-8 psi at idle. With my tst on 3-3 and my ez on level 3, It will suck fuel psi right down to about 2. I tapped my fuel line at the low psi port on the cp3 itself. I think a fass might be in my future as I plan on making more power. You however should be ok. I think if you change your fuel filter about every 5-10k miles you should be fine.

Hope this helped!!

P. S.

What do you have for mods on your truck now?

158K miles on my filter housing mounted LP.

7. 5psi at idle, 5. 5psi wot empty, 5psi loaded going up a mountain(7000lbs) with banjo fitting at the CP3 pump.

Truck is stock, and I can not seem to get my EGTs over 900deg.

I am sure this will all change when I add a Smarty...

PS. I did have a filter clog, PSI at idle was 5 and would drop to 0 as soon as WOT was applied.
