Problem: In the morning I get 15 PSI @ idle. Drive a bit and it drops to 7 PSI. Put a load on it and I get 4 PSI. I can stop and let it cool say an hour and I get 15 PSI again. I have just replaced my fuel filter for troubleshooting purposes after about 5k miles of use. It looked fine. I know the Xfer pump in CTDs have a history but... I recently installed my electrical fuel pressure gauge, it could possibly have a problem but not likely, IMHO. My pump baseline was 15 PSI idle and about 12. 5 @ 70 mph, loaded with 6K pound 5th whl pulling a hill 11 PSI. I suspect my Xfer pump. My truck is young with only 16K but I live in CA and the mountain grades and high desert temps may have shortened the pumps life a bit. So... can anyone tell me where I can find a mechanical fuel pressure gauge that will fit on my fuel test ports. I doubt that my new gauge is at fault but would be really embarrassed if I took my truck to the dealer and he found nothing wrong.

Very frustrated.

Briarhopper has been selling a mechanical test gauge with the fittings you need all made up, for a good price. check the older threads you will find all the info, or email him. :)

Post testing

Chuck,

Just finished buying a mechanical gauage this evening. After looking high and low I found the gauge at the local auto parts. It was 0 - 100 psi but it was accurate enough to tell me what I needed to know. My transfer pump is only pumping out 5 PSI at idle and nearly zero psi at 2000 RPM unloaded. . I am taking it in tomorrow to have it repaired. Thanks for the help
