new lift pump, 14 to 15 psi at idle, 10 to 12 psi running at about 55 mph, but will pull down to 7 to 7. 5 psi at WOT is this fairly normal.

Fuel psi

What up with that, I have a new lift pump and only get a tad over 10 psi at idle, and when running down the road around 8 psi, but some times I fire the truck up and it only idles at 8 and will run at 7 or 8 psi. Whats up with this, don't tell me this pump is going bad already, not even 600 miles on it.

Is your guage mounted before or after the fuel filter? If the answer is "after", check the filter.

Mike (truckie)

your pressures sound a bit low especially for a new pump. from what i saw of your setup, i remember your gauge is reading post filter. Change your fuel filter if you haven't done so recently. Ive got one at home i can bring friday night. it will take 2 minutes.

Fuel PSI

   Jason, (JStull) I don't remember off hand but I think Doug set it up after the fuel filter. The readings I'm getting don't make since. To day when the truck was off the gage was reading 5 psi, I'm thinking maby because of the heat, but I fired the truck up several different times to night and every time it was different. Most of the time it is idleing @ 7-8 psi and going down the road tonight it was @ 6, but at one point when fried the truck up to night it was @ 10 psi. since it cooled down a bit the fuel gage in the cab is sitting on 0 .

Don't know whats up with all of this but I'm think of going to the Cummins dealer and get a new lift pump from them, the heck with the dealer. What do you think? Will the pump from Cummins be any better than the one from Dodge?

Truckie,

Don't fret, your lift pump is bad, dude! Period! There's 4 part #'s for new lift pumps and only one # is going to be a good one. If you want to know the 'good' one, log onto "Cumminsstuff.com", or

Cummins parts store also has the acceptable #. , with the added pigtail.

I had the same exact problem as you, and even the _ealer admitted that there's a problem with several lift pump part #'s.

I do not know about the _ealer, but I do have experience with Cummins and they have the correct part #!

Lift Pump Part number

Truckie,

Bad lift pump :(... Mine did same thing. Replaced it and now have 15 psi idle 12 cruising 10 WOT.

This is the lastest part number with pigtail cable.

Pigtail

What is it for, They sold me one and I did'nt need it. Are there models out there with a different plug because both ends of my pigtail are the same?
