I am having a problem with my 99 diesel, under heavy acceleration it seems to run out of fuel. Let off the peddle and it runs smooth at any speed. I believe this may be a fuel lift pump problem, but I am not sure. I have noticed that I can not hear the pump run when I turn on the ignition switch Can any one help? Also have 62,000 miles on truck, does anyone know if this would be covered under the 100,000 mile diesel warranty. If not, does anyone know what the newest lift pump part number would be or how I could solve this problem.

The lift pump is covered under the 100k mile warrenty have a dealer check your lift pump and after that install your own gauge so you can monitor it . You should hear the pump run if you turn the ign switch to the START postion for a second with out the engine starting. When my lift pump died I didn't notice any thing till a fuel filter change it wouldn't reprime like it should.

You have to "tap" the starter to get the lift pump to run. It is a Cummins supplied part and I would like to think it should be covered by the warranty. Have the pump pressure checked. Should be 15 psi while the lift pump is running and the engine is not. Don't let the dealer give you a line about you using bad fuel, those pumps are failing all over the country. Don't know what the latest part number is. Could find out at work. The newest one does need a jumper harness to hook it to the original wiring.

Has the weather been cold or snowy lately? Test drain some fuel from your rig while it is running, warmed up. See if there is water (ice) in your fuel canister. If it has been a while since the fuel filter change, change that. Cold diesel has a terrible time going thru a dirty filter. Did your fuel gel?

You can crack the left side brass plug on top of the fuel canister, after bumping the starter, and check for fuel leaking out (meaning the lift pump is actually working). Do this first before changing the filter, otherwise the truck could be DOA (from bad lift pump) and will need to be towed to the dealer for lift pump change.

Also check your air box for snow/ice that could have blown in there.

I'd bet it's the lp. Mine went out about the same way, kinda ran outta juice at the end of the ramp, back outta it and it ran fine. Don't wait, get it done and yes, it's under warranty.
