Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) fuel psi vs. startup smoke

Have any of you had any experience with poor fuel psi and lots of cold startup smoke? I've got 61K on my 01. 5 ETH and found that when it was newer, no smoke or noxious fumes at startup. I'm on my second lift pump and when it went away, it left injection pump codes. It has somked since, eventhough it runs beautifully otherwise. Any ideas? (other than I need guages)

Yes, as a matter of fact. Although I can't explain why. GET GUAGES!!!! Read my post " Yet another plug for guages" You'll understand better then. I've noticed since I replaced the lift pump I'm not getting that garage choking cloud in the morning. GET GUAGES!! O. K. at least a fuel pressure guage! See ya!, Greg
