Hey guys can you help me get this straight. I am reading that stock fuel pumps are failing and it best to replace with FASS or Air Dog ect. Here is my question, my current ride is a 2003 dually 48re 4:10s 4x4 sport pkg. 38,000 miles. Which pump gets replaced? Is it behind the stock fuel filter? If you install the FASS on the frame rail is the rest of the install difficult? I just put in a Amsoil duel bypass filter and to me it was not to hard to do. Does the stock fuel filter stay? I have heard some buzz about in tank pumps? I have a blank slate and would like to get to work on my truck. Your help is appreciated , also In order to stay in the sweet spot on the high way I need to drive at 58 mph, my thoughts were to put in a gear venders over drive ? Is this idea solid or would taller tires be a valid option? stock tires are 235/80/17 I dont know what would be a good size.

in 04. 5 they went to an in-tank pump. Its much more reliable but for some folks it doesn't have enough guts when you are running BOMBS. I'm not sure what your end goal is power wise so I can't tell you which way to go. For me I wanted to waste money on items that eat up the tires, clutch, and fuel faster so I went with a FASS. If you don't plan on bombing then I would go with the in-tank. The only down side to the in-tank is lower pressure and if you want to put a 2 micron fuel filter on to help protect the injection system (stock canister filter is 5 micron) then you may again be looking at a FASS. There are several FASS options from just a pump to the pump w/filters. I have a FASS 150 and kept the stock filter in-line for added protection (and to maintain fuel heater). The FASS isn't hard to install, just takes some time (drop tank or lift bed).

For your "sweet spot" question the only down side to gear vendors that I have heard is that you can't use an exhaust brake with it. USGear is another option for you on that front. Outside of that you are looking at gears or some custom work putting in a Spicer or Mitchell (if you can find one) overdrive. I'm betting taller tires will not get you anything as they usually have more rolling resistance.

With the fass pump it mounts to the bed rail(not the frame). You keep the factor filter. Fass puts a inline filter on the fule line. Full details on the web site.

If you have a GV and EB, you must make sure the GV is disengaged before activating the EB. The GV does not like the reverse pressure on it's clutches.

I have an '04. 5 with the lift pump mounted on the backside of the filter housing, not in the tank. It is certainly easier to replace than an in-tank pump would be. Replacements are available from Geno's.

You could also just replace the factory pump on the side on the filter with a FASS pump. No filters to worry about and no new lines to run it's a good solid pump.

Does any one here have a Gear venders unit in? I have a 03 auto so there is no EB. I want to know if there is a noticeable mileage increase with it.
