With the INTANK pump it doesn't stop running. Part of the retro to the intank is a computer update. Bet it throws a check engine light and for sure a code. I think one of the reasons to the intank pump was liability's. The external pump truck dies. In the fast lane or towing in the mountains etc. It stalls and you lose steering,brakes etc.

Ya that's what happened to me coming down a good grade lost brakes and steering. a bit freaky, most women wouldn't know what to do along with needing a strong arm for the steering

I have a low fuel pressure light on my truck, when it came on the truck was still running. I snapped a mechanical guage on and it showed 0 psi and the truck still ran, but lower rail pressure. It depends what position the pump fails at, if it is in the retract stroke pulling fuel in it opens the passage to the CP3, if it fails while pushing fuel, it will block fuel flow. I have been a fan of the low pressure light, when my filters start to plug it will flicker under wide open throttle telling me the pressure is down to 5 psi. I highly recomend one, I just installed one on my buddies pickup.

For JEstes and BMeier,

I just replaced my lift pump today with the Genos kit. Out of curiosity for those who have changed theirs, how long did it take you? It took me about 2 hours from opening the tool box to washing my hands.

BMeier: I just replaced my lift pump with the genos replacement on my '03, it only took a half hour. I removed left tire and fender liner and it was right there to work on, piece of cake.

Since I just got a P0628, just to be sure, did you two replace the LP with Geno's $179 replacement?

I know that this would be the time to change out to a Airdog or FASS, but $$ will tell me what to do.

My truck took a dive while my girlfriend was driving across a long freeway bridge late night. Freaked her out but she was able to coast onto the shoulder. From her description and research here everything pointed to lift pump. I ponnied up the dollars and had an AirDog 150 overnighted, this is our only truck had to get up and running. Replace a known weak link with a much better product. Cleaner and purer fuel with a lifetime warranty. The AD and FASS pumps are currently on sale I beleive

I did the genos replacement about a month ago. Took me about 45 minutes in the dark with a flashlight on the stone covered roadside, (which is a story in and of itself, starting with my homeowners association towing my truck from my driveway because the driverside wheels were on my lawn, the truck was waiting for fuel pump delivery at the time) :mad:

I started from the bottom of the truck laying on the stones and quickly realized I couldn't see or reach the bolts. Once I layed across the top of the engine I realized I could feel all the bolts and was able to swap out the pump that way. I still have to go back and install the new hoses and pre-filter.

BMeier, any details on the low fuel pressure light? I'd love to install a fp gauge, but funds won't allow right now, and this sounds like an inexpensive alternative. Any info would be appreciated and will save me tons of time researching

The low FP light is something I put together. I have a 1R0750 CAT fuel filter between the factory filter and CP3 pump. After the Cat filter I tee'd in with a hobb's fuel pressure switch (p/n 76577) that is normally open, when the fuel pressure drops to 5 psi and below, the switch closes. This is reading the actual fuel pressure to the CP3. I put a red LED light in the dash from Radio Shack. I put power to the switch and put the light on the ground side. Its been flawless so far. I have had this filter and light on for 60,000 plus miles and no problems. I think I will eventually put a FASS none filtered pump on though.

ctd4stan;

Yeah I used the Genos pump, like you money was an issue. Once I get enough I will eventually install a FASS stand alone pump.
