Fuel Pump Install Questions

I have a mallory fuel pump on the way and I was just wanting to get a push in the right direction with the install. Do you have to drop the tank when you install and also do you have to remove the lift pump that's on the tank already. I've been driving the truck with the fuel light on for a couple days now, trying to get it as empty as possible without running out of fuel. Also, what wire do you tap the hot lead from the pump into? I would think that it would need to be something that it inline with the ignition but who knows what wire that could be?!? This install should be a lot of fun. Keep your fingers crossed.

Mike's right. Cut the old wires off the lift pump, there's only two, extend them if you plan to move the lift pump closer to the tank (the ideal location) and install the wires on the new pump. Now you can plug it in like the old one.

Demon,
There is no pump at all in the fuel tank. Your factory lift pump is bolted to the engine block just behind the fuel filter housing. Where ever you decide to mount the new lift pump,you should be able to use the stock wiring.

Look on the 24 valve forum search for mallory 4150 or BG220. I went through the whole ordeal a few weekends ago and posted all the info needed. Hope it helps, and good luck.
