Fuel pump sound on startup

I noticed a change in the sound of my fuel pump when I first turn over the key. You know when you turn over the key and wait to start you hear the fuel pump going for about 30 seconds then it seems to stop then you start the truck. Well mine never seems to stop now. You never hear it stop no matter how long you leav the key on without starting the truck.



Anyone experienced this condition? This started prior to me installing my Quad box last fall. Hasn't seemed to harm anything "yet".

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? On my 01, when one of my lift pumps went out it sounded totally normal while the other one made a very unusual that was distinct when it died. A fuel pressure gauge was the only way I could tell for sure if it was my imagination or if the pump was really going out, it also allow to watch the last one slowly lose pressure over the course of a few months so it gave me time to get another pump and set aside a day to change it rather than have to scramble to get 'r dun...

my 03 has a vacuum pump for the cruse control thats on the passengers firewall and this makes a buzzing sound on start up if there is a vauum leak it will not shut off need 11" of vac.

Its is set at time delay when No start condition exist, So if it continues to run without the engine running I would investigate the matter. .

This is interesting to read... I had the same thing happen on my '03 after installing my Edge J/A box. The lift pump runs much longer as previously stated, but it does eventually shut off if I turn the key on and don't start the truck. I guess since it does eventually turn off if the truck is not started, I never really thought much about it. If yours really does not ever shut off, I could see unnecessary wear on the lift pump and excessive draw to your electrical system resulting so that may be something to consider.



On a side note, my factory lift pump recently died and I installed a Raptor 100 gear rotor pump from GDP, but I doubt that had anything to do with it.

I noticed the same thing when I loaded my Smarty Jr. The lift pump was recently replaced, but it acted normal before the Smarty.

My situation sounds similar to several of your's. I will perform more tests and get back with everyone.
