Ok guys, so I got the cam plate and the GSK, what else can I do to the pump? I have heard about the Mack plug, and messing with the AFC. I've got a set of 370's sitting in the garage, and am planning on DV's when I get a turbo, but what can I do for now? Does putting the Mack plug in require me taking the pump off? Thanks, Buck

I would send the pump off or find a 215 pump but that is just me. Or iron out your pump and sell it to a little pump guy and buy a good or rebuilt 215 from someone like Industrial. I know allot of people buy big DV's but they are not the end all, I run 181's right now and don't even have another set, I rely on the injectors to deliver the bigger fuel when/if I need it.

I plan on eventually sending my pump in, or getting a built 215. I'm just trying to get the most fuel possible out of my 180. What can I do? I haven't really messed with anything else on the pump. My 6 plate is full forward, adjusted the starwheel for more pre-boost fuel, and the 3K GSK, but besides the Mack plug, what else can I do without shipping the pump off?

Look into getting the pump timing done. Right now all you are doing is adding more fuel via the AFC, which isn't a bad thing, but you aren't getting maximum power out of your pump if the fuel isn't going in at the right time. Mine is advanced to about 18* BTDC and it REALLY makes a difference.

is there a site where i can learn to adjust the star wheel?

Allen bolt out of top of the pump.

Turning that brake cam looking wheel clockwise defuels the motor. Turning it counterclockwise give you more preturbo fuel. (Thats facing the front of motor) A little goes a long way

so thats saying counterclockwise if i was sitting in the cab? thanks

Basically, taking tension off that big spring next to the star wheel lets more pre turbo fuel in. Can really help on the hole shot :D And blow lots of black smoke too :{ And turning the starwheel back in (Tension on spring)cuts off the fuel on takeoff. No smoke, slower takeoff, Making the ford guys and the tree hugging people love you.

the late model powerstroke that i blotted out the sun for while test driving my truck after moving the plate full forward, i had not adjusted the afc yet and it was completely slack, hopefully he was a tree hugger so he had something to do while the cloud cleared, cause it was a good one made even better with dual exhaust :-laf

hi all,

I'm looking for the next mod to my truck and am wondering if installing the mack plug will make a big difference. I have the 215 pump, 10 plate (in stock position). It's a daily driver, minimal towing. Looking to build power for fun and of course speed. . . Thoughts on this?

Of course I could get a set of DVs and new injectors, but I'm looking for something cheaper since I have to get a clutch soon...

thanx

on a 913 (215) pump the mack plug will actually give up top end fueling. Save for the clutch then put your plate forward Get a set of 370's or DDP 4's with some L/C d/v's and a healthy turbo and your in the 5's

Have Fun!

Jim

Thanks, Jim. Yeah, looks like I really should be saving for the clutch at this point... At this point, I can't put all the power I already have to the ground anyway...

There is allot of debate on the 215 pumps as to what is too much for rack travel, plate ect. On my pump it has been to the shop and tapped out, meaning it was set at max rack and a balance, I don't know if it is the best it can be as the guy that had I. I. do it didn't spend much money so I know Jason could make it that much better. A while back he and I were talking about this subject and he said most people just say (tap the pump out) so that is what he does, but also says when people let him set the pump up like he wants it, that it will always run better.

I figure my pump was set at max or close to it so I started backing up the plate a little at a time, once I started this I noticed the little bit of smoke on the topend started to go away and it ran better past 3K, so I kept going with it playing back and for a little at a time, adjust road test, adjust road test, right now it is set at 2 mm's back from the mark that I made for full travel when it came back from the shop. This is were it runs better on #2, on N2O all of this goes away! Now add the EDM injectors and it likes 3 mm's back a tiny bit better. It's totally weird the way it acts but for the guy that is thinking about this it runs cleaner, less boost but has more punch on the topend, below 3K there is no running/power difference that I can tell. Keep in mind that I'm doing this on the road and not a dyno. The most odd thing for a visual is to see the plate back from the stock position and the AFC all the way back..... set via air pressure, full fuel is at 35 psi.

Full fuel at 35 psi

Jim,

Tell me if I understand this correctly. Having full fuel at 35 psi is giving enough air to properly burn the added fuel which in turn causes a low smoke output. Also the power is probably smoother curve instead not having power and then all of sudden there is boost and the power is there.

That is about right! It gives things a chance to catch up prior to full fuel coming on. On a stock turbo truck I usually set this at about 25 psi and it puffs a little smoke and snaps on to the charger.

Would a mack plug benifit me or not. i have a 95 slightly modified. and plan to go to high hp, just figured i would ask to see if it benifited me, also where to get it if it does thanks.
