The Mack Plug allows for more rack travel. As Jim mentioned there it a debate as to how much rack travel is optimum. More may not necessarily be better.

Let me clarify that my statement pertains to only a 215 pump, all other pumps need a rack plug to tap the pump out. If someone brought me a truck with any other pump and said tap it out, a rack cap is one thing I would incorporate.

The way the TDR does business now you can't get someone like Brady Williams on here that has worked on pumps for 30 years and explain this type stuff, if he does then someone will argue with him then he is kicked off the TDR for a period of time or indefinately. Anyone remember back in day when Bill Kondalay use to come one here and tell us exactly how a transmission worked with no smoke and mirrors.

I need to figure out if a rack cap is advantageous on a stupid pump. Any ideas?

Now thats a different story. I think if your going all out like that it would be a good idea. If I remember the rack cap increases rack travel past 17mm but I could be wrong on that number.

Yes... . 2 mm's or 70 cc's

Yes, greater 17 mm's but you may be able to get 18 or so without it. I've never really measured it but have measured the rack cap advantage on a stupid pump.

Still havent heard anything really pertaining to the mack plug in the 215 if it helps or hurts and why. I have read on other forums that it doesnt do it any good. True or Myth?

if you have a "stupid pump" it should already have a rack travel cap.

Pull your pump, spend the money and have it put on a stand and calibrated. If you want to get the best bang for your buck have larger plungers and barrels installed not for over all fuel delivery increase but to help your injection rate, that is where you will notice the big gains.
