I usually keep my mouth shut, but!

If your Dodge is a pos and everyone else builds something better, then why are you still driving it? They have great resale value, and if you could pay 38k for this one then you can do it again for someone else's. I am disapointed in the quality of paint on my 2001, but not enough to call the whole ride a pos. I will drive it like it is, and when I can't stand it anymore, I'll have it painted. Ford is not without their problems, you can ask the guy I passed the other day. He was going up a pretty steep hill towing 7golf carts on a light duty 30' gooseneck, with a 2000-2002 4dr dually. He was blowing smoke and running every bit of 20mph. I almost stoped to see if he would make it to the top. I drove my buddies 6speed 2000 psd two weeks ago. We were doing lots of stop and go driving, opening gates etc. Three times his ford would only idle. You let the clutch out and hit the fuel, nothing, just idle. Had to kill it and restart to make it go. It is still doing it.

Chip, my /97 PSD will outpull my Dodge, no ifs, ands or buts, and it is rated higher in the pulling dept also. I've noticed the heavier the loads the more the PSD outpulls the Dodge. This is in stock trim, w/no power mods. It has no steering probs caused by a badly designed track bar thing. The clutch doesn't need to be replaced due to power upgrades, even the little upgrade I have in my Dodge, the clutch slips with only a 4300lb load. Never heard of any lift pump probs. with a PSD. Friends that have powered up their PSDs don't worry about their auto transmissions holding up either. Like I said, it's the lightest duty 3/4 ton I've owned! I've owned 1/2 tons Chevs, but no 3/4s. From the ones I've seen that my friends own, they don't stack up well to either the Dodge or PSD. To top it off, I've run 4 Dodges, all stock, including my own HO against my PSD and in stock trim the PSD beat all four of them. The PSD has never seen the inside of a Ford dealership, I hope after as many years I can say that about my Dodge. Don't want no pi$$'n contest here, these are just the facts. I have no ax to grind. If the Dodge was better and out performed my PSD I'd say that too, it just ain't so. I just thought I'd try a Dodge for a change and see what I thought of 'em first hand. Never have believed anything anyone else says about what they own, most folks are to biased to give you a true picture, so I had to see for myself.

I never said my Dodge was a POS, I just said it ain't as tough as I was lead to believe. I'll continue to drive and enjoy it up until the point that it becomes a POS and I lose my confidence in it's ability to do what I need a truck to do. So far it's a good truck, and thanks to this forum I know what to watch for and hopefully will be able to catch probs before they become catastrophic failiers.

Thats the beauty of this site, good information. If you didn't read it hear, you probobly wouldn't know about it,therefore you wouldn't have any big issues with your DODGE.

If you cheak a PHERD site I'm sure you can read all about they're problems,'cause they all have 'em,this way you know what to expect.

Peace, Rob

Ramthis, how many miles you have on your ride?

I am just under 100K miles. This truck is the most maintenance intensive vehicle I have EVER had. From 70K to 88K miles was a record for me, it went a whole 18K miles without needing anything replaced!!!!!!!

I have been a Dodge guy from way back, the best vehicle I have ever had was a 76 powerwagon. It was awesome.

Chace, where did I say the others did not have problems? Where did I say I wanted another brand? I am positive I could buy a Ford or Chevy and have a worse truck than this one. I am positive I could also buy a Ford or a Chevy and have a lot better truck than this one. The vehicle you end up with could be great and it could be terrible no matter the brand. They all make one once in a while that leaves some to be desired right? Two years ago I could have dropped this one and bought another, things change, I can't now. I hoped the cycle of failures would end and it didn't, I lost. I will continue to fix this one with the best parts I can get a piece at a time. , sooner or later I will have a solid truck.

You guys that are being so critical of a guy calling his truck that HE OWNS a POS come back at 100K miles, then you will have the ammo for an arguement. My dad has a 95 that has had less than 1/4 of the work done that I have had on the 99, and he is over 160K miles. His has been a good truck. Some are great, and some suck, I hope you are luckier than I have been.

The lift pump issue has been a real read. My 2001 CTD is a joy to ride. I sure appreciate this forum and the advice on fuel pressure guage install by Steve St. Laurent. Is there a chance that Dodge will step into the problem and recall the vehicles for a fuel pump install back by the fuel tank? (looking for the "dreamer" face at the sidebar).

Sometimes you get a lemon

Sorry to hear about your problems. You've stuck with it longer than I would have. I have learned through my many vehicle purchases that you know within the first 20K miles if it is a keeper or not. If it's not, you dress it up and ship it out :D It does not matter if it is a Ford, Dodge, Porsche or Mercedes, they all make lemons. Whatever you do don't keep a lemon, just take the hit and get rid of it. I think you will agree it is cheaper in the long run.

That's why I usually keep my mouth shut.

I should not be so pro Dodge on this site, my bad. I got to thinking about what I like and dislike about Dodge and came up with a list. I am too busy to list what I like.

Here is what pisses me off about Dodge:

1. Fuel level sending unit failure

2. Lift Pump Failure

3. Sorry Paint

4. No 4-door

So far that is all that has been a problem for me. I have owned 4 Dodge Cummins 3/4tons. I have put on a total of 269,000 miles on these pickups. All but the one I own now were purchased used with at least 85k on them. I put a rebuilt injector pump on my 91, other than that I have not had an expensive repair. I do maintain my vehicles.

That said, if I got a lemon Dodge, I would probably buy a Ford to replace it. I just hope I don't get a lemon.

LSMITH, and anybody else who cares to read this,

I have 58,000 miles on mine, I pulled this from another thread I had posted to... .

I've had some problems with my truck, the track bar and misc. steering components, both window regulators, power lock switches, headlight switch, fog lights, the silly sunglass holder(twice and need another one),lift pump, and the latest,a headgasket, and I'm sure I forgot some items.

Sure it hasn't been maintenance free, but some of it was under warrenty, and the rest wasn't that expensive to fix. Other than the headgasket, fixes were made in no time, the headgasket took me a little longer.

Like I also said in another thread, if they made every truck to military specs. , the trucks would last too long (as if) and the mechanics would be out of work and so would the auto makers.

Thats why it's called "maintenance",you use it ,abuse it, you gotta' fix it.

Yes I also know that some of the parts are undersized, but what are ya' gonna' do? This is what you bought,if one doesn't like it, or can't deal with it, maybee they need somthing differant.

This site is here to help people with they're issues, the 2nd gen. is over, they're not making these anymore, so they can't improve them, we havta deal with it, simple as that.

I have my complaints, like everyone else. The best truck I ever owned was a '77 F-250, if they built that exact same truck now,I'd buy it in a second, that was a "TRUCK",steel dash and plastic was rare. To bad it didn't come with the mighty Cummins, or I'd probobly still be driving it.

The bottom line is, we have to make do, with whats at hand. Nobody is EVER gonna' make a flawless truck, live with it or move on, to other problems.

I LOVE MY TRUCK!!!!!

So your truck quit running when your lift pump died? Mine kept running and starting. The only way I knew mine was dead was when I checked it with a FP guage. :(
