Truck at work a 99 2500. Runs fine but sometimes after being shut off it wont restart. Getting fuel to filter canister but not to injectors. Try starting a little latter it will start right back up like nothing was wrong. What do you think?

Maybe fuel shutoff solinoid, mine is a 94 so I'm just going by what I've heard here, when problum happens get out and check posission , it may not be solinoid but electric to it ,a lot talk about grounds at battery, and relay problums, hope this helps or stay tuned.

it dosent have a fuel shut off like the early trucks. it is all in the pump if you crank for a long time will it start or not . the fuel pump might be on the way out

I had a problem that developed a few weeks ago. While not all that similar, I did have issues with the fuel pr guage showing erratic pressure numbers. One day it would idle at 12 psi and drop to 5-6 psi at highway speeds and 0 if I stomped on the pedal. The next day it would idle at at only 8 psi and drop to 1. 5-2 psi at highway speeds, again zero if I stomped the pedal. Then, a couple days later, the psi readouts would improve back to the 12 psi idle/ 5-6 at highway speeds.

I called Chris Strickland at Relentless Diesel and he said it sounded like a textbook lift pump problem, the lift pump was on its way out. When I took the truck to Chirs for LP replacement, he reported back to me that the lift pump was fine, rather it was the FUEL FILTER that was causing the problem. Apparently, the fuel filter was so clogged, it was restricting fuel to the injection pump. Chris replaced the fuel filter, now the truck idles at 14-15 psi and 10 psi at highway speeds. If I stomp the pedal it drops to 8 psi. A dramatic improvement with something as simple as routine maintainence.

Have you tried replaing the fuel filter?

There is a TSB for hard restarts while engine is hot, but all it does is stop the lift pump from priming when you turn the ignition on. When you have hard starts on a hot engine, it is usually a sign of a failing VP44. If you can, check the computer for any codes, if you have a p0216 (which I bet you do), then it is time to start saving for a new injeciton pump.
