Hello all,

I am looking to install a couple of combo gauges since my Outlook Monitor was causing some problems. I am looking at monitoring boost/egt and fuel press. /trans. temp. My question to you all is should I monitor fuel rail pressure or lift pump pressure? If you only had one choice, which should it be? Quite honestly I prefer rail pressure, but that I'm not finding in the combination gauge I want (press. /temp. ). I greatly appreciate any input as you all are a wealth of knowledge and ingenuity!

Thanks again,

J. S. :)

Lift pump pressure gauge. It will help with when to change filters, and keep you from getting stranded. Lift pump problems seem 2:1 over rail pressure problems.

Thanks for the reply.
So, rail pressure problems are most related to CP3, while lift pump pressure problems are either lift pump or filter related? Where is the sender usually located for the lift pump pressure gauge?

With a lift pump pressure gauge, it usually comes with the sending unit, that you have to install yourself. The ones I've installed usually use a banjo bolt fitting and if its a mechanical gauge, it'll use a fuel pressure isolator so you dont have to run a fuel line into your cab. Westach makes some pretty nice combination gauges.

Install the LP source in the CP-3 input using a tapped banjo. Thats the best place to monitor as it will catch LP and filter issues.

A lot of the newer gauges, ISSPRO EV II in particular, use a sending unit instead of a line. Do NOT install the sending units on the engine or accessories themselves or you will be replacing them to frequently. An 18" grease gun hose makes an excellet isolator of the FP sending unit.

I agree with the others who responded that you should monitor fuel lift (transfer) pump pressure. I have my electric sender mounted to the top of the steel fuel filter cap from Geno's. The only issue I have had since installing it several years ago is that the nuts for the gauge wires need to be kept snug for good contact.

Thanks for all the help.
I guess lift pump it is! I've been looking at the SPA dual gauges and have read good feedback from members. They do offer a pressure/temperature dual gauge. Westach also offers dual gauges, and they can even make up one-off combinations.

My Isspro EV 11 fuel pressure sender ( lift pump pressure ) is in the banjo bolt in the CP3. Are you saying to move it because of vibrations? I installed a snubber in between the sender and the banjo fitting but the needle still bounces around. Shadrach
