2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Fuel return leak from plastic line at tank

Hello,I am working on a 1997 3500. I have a leak on the plastic fuel return line at the fuel tank. It rubbed on the frame rail and wore a groove in the plastic line. My question is, can I cut the plastic line off the steel line, and slip rubber hose on the steel line and clamp, and do the same thing at the sending unit module? The plastic lines connect to the module with special clips, Can I just pull those off and slip rubber hoses on and clamp? I am not going to spend $215 dollars a piece for new lines from Dodge. Yes, but I'm not famailiar with any plastic lines. There are steel lines from the tank that clip to the module and there are rubber lines clamped onto them that go to the engine. I have a module top that has serviceable steel connectors if you can use them. If the steel line has a hole worn into it you can cut the bad portion off and clamp a longer rubber hose to it without messing with the connectors at the tank.

The lines that connect to the module are some sort of plastic with special connecter clips to hold them to tank module. Both the lines transition from plastic to steel on the frame behind the gas tank. Caterpillarman

they sell repair / replacement kits. the are a generic kit that has diferrent size hose and fittings. never bought one bought saw it in a flyer at the local autoparts store

If it is plastic(or more likeley nylon), you may be able to cut it, then warm it slightly with a heat gun and push in a double barb fitting to splice where it is damaged. I have seen where the body builder has done this on an International Ambulance, where they tapped into the fuel supply line and added an additional fuel filter, using nylon air brake tubing.

Sell it, head over to Carson Dodge and get a new cab and chassis! Then let's go camping and hunting for graboids in the desert!

My special lines are long gone. I tried to repair/replace the fittings and gave up. Just clamp a piece of fuel hose on it (diesel rated if you can find it, I never have). The 'constant tension' clamps are best if you can get some that are snug to the OD of the hose.
