Going to replace my fuel sending unit soon. Need to know if the replacement is new and improved or the same as the one I am replacing? Also need to know if I can buy a replacement from NAPA or other parts place rather than the overpriced dealer? If anyone has the answeres to this I would appreciate it. Also part numbers for the sending unit if you have them. Thanks in advance.

same here was just quoted 297. 00 from local dealer for fuel module so call dealer about 60 miles away was quoted 48. 00 for sending unit whats up with that???

It's a dealer only item. The high price Wally got was for the entire module. The low price, which is also too high, they are usually $34, is just for the sender. As far as I know the new ones are the same old junk.

Do you guys know where is a cheap, good place to get a replacement fuel sending unit and module?

Mine is going south. . and quick. This morning my fuel gauge was reading half a tank at 420 miles. But yet it took me 26 gallons to fill up my tank... . hmmm go figure.

The local stealer quoted me $82 for a diagnostic check, $320 for the sending unit and $570 for the module. Talk about ripping people off!!! Where can I buy these parts for cheaper????

Thanks

Kev

Read Bills (illflem) response again. You just need the sending unit and not the entire module. There is information about doing a fix that will make them last. However I have once again done such a good job of filing that information, I can't find it. Try doing a search or perhaps someone with a better filing system will chime in. Good Luck

No-strokin,

I understand that it is a dealer only item... but $270 for a sender???? Bill said that the sender is $34. Where can I obtain one for this price???

Go here http://dodgeram.org/tech/repair/index.html#wiring and scroll down the page to Fuel Gauge Sending Unit Repair for good info.

Any dealer can get you the sender for around $40, usually less. Just make it clear that you only want the sender not the entire fuel tank module. It for sure is available separately even though a lazy parts counter guy may try to tell you otherwise.

The topic has been discussed in the TDR many times. See TDR#32, p. 143 for installation, and reference to earlier articles. This article was in conjunction with installing the Transfer Flow 54 gallon replacement tank.

Sender Part #

Ok I see lots of people posting that they have got the sender seperatly from the module, but no where do I see a part #. My local dealers tell me that there is no number or product and that my only option is to shell out the $275 dollars for the module. Anyone have the number or know where to find it. Thanks,

Jason

Iv'e been reading post for a few hours and have come up with a part # 04797738. Make sure you check it out and have Dealer verify. My dealer told me that there is no such part, buy the whole mudule or live with a bad gauge.

Good Luck, Jason

:p :p :p :p :p :p

Level unit

The part # for the level unit is 4797738 dont let them tell you any diff. I have purchased a lot of these parts and the price is around 30. 00 I have a couple of these in stock now

Just talk to the Idiot at the dealer, and he told me that the part number that I gave him is designed for the 94 dodge and that it will not fit any other year. Should I believe him, or just tell him to order it and not worry what he thinks. Thanks Jason:mad:

The idiot may be right

The part number for the fuel level unit for my 97 is 5013467. It came with seal #52018808 (the big one for the module).

Six. Shooter - you can't tell what this man needs unless you've removed the fuel module. It MAY ONLY NEED THE SENDING UNIT but this is not ALWAYS the case. MY entire module is crap and needs replacing. Putting a new sending unit WILL NOT solve every problem with this cheap part. The design is okay but the part durability sucks.

Don't candy coat this as there are other problems in addition to the cheap fuel sending unit.
