Fuel Shutoff Solenoid. Does it make a noise?

Hey all,



I have a 4bt with the VE pump. No start condition. This pump looks identical to the 6bt excepting the extra lines... No fuel on the after the pump. I am thinking bad solenoid. I am in the process of jumping the solenoid. Does it make any noise when 12 volts is applied. I am not hearing anything when applied?

It should 'click'. If you can, try taking the solenoid out and removing the spring and plunger, reinstall and see what happens.

It makes a very faint noise. If you can't hear it put a finger on it you should feel the plunger hit the body when it opens/closes

Thanks guys! As always the first gen guys come through! I am over in the 2nd gen forum but I had a first gen and this thing is literally just like the 1st gen. It even has that bracket that really needs to be cut off!



Has anyone witnessed an increased failure rate in these solenoids due to severe cold weather? Just curious?

I don't recall ever reading that or anyone drawing that conclusion here.

Temperature really should not affect it (within the temps we are in).

It was the key switch... Go figure. I jumped the switched and went hot to the solenoid and she fired right over.



BTW: I couldn't hear or feel the solenoid activating? Maybe it is a bit different on the 4 cyl cummins?

I'll bet it's the same solenoid. . like I said the sound is very faint. . at least with these old ears.

I have been there done that also with the key switch failure. Many of us first genners have been thru it.
