Ok did the boot replacement recently (4-5 weeks ago) fixed the problem starts up every time. Until 3 days ago wouldn't start sure enough turned key on pushed rod up it stayed up and started. So I figured that maybe I didn't clean it off good or something. I took the solenoid off today and cleaned good re assembled and now it will not pull the rod up or release it when I turn the key off. WTF is going on here? I ordered a cheapo solenoid on ebay for $30 otherwise they are $300 for one from the local parts place.

Okay I jumped the connection on the relay and the solenoid makes a little click but not nearly as loud as Larry B's demo on youtube does which leads me to believe it's not the relay and it is the solenoid.Am I going in the right direction? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Batteries may be low, May be corrosion on the terminals. How about the the fuzzable links? Genoe's garage has a good price if you need to replace the solenoid. As does Larry B's.
You may have a weak relay about to go.

Thanks MLee. I removed the solenoid again to check the movement when I jumped the relay and it worked. then I tried it again and it didn't. So I tried it with the key a few times, and it worked sometimes but not others. Not sure what's going on, I'm going to replace the relay along with the solenoid. I don't think it would be the fusable link since it works sometimes.

It was the solenoid. I replaced the relay anyway. I also cleaned all of the connections at the battery per Larry B. Super nice guy. Now I've got a new problem. Did a oil change while waiting for parts, and now my oil drain plug is leaking!

They are available at O'Reilly. Part # DOR 65384.

If you want Cummins, it's 3926910 for the plug, 3923096 for the washer.

Mine had the copper washer when new. Replaced it 4-5 times then got the one from Cummins, rubber both sides lasted for a long time. Now have gone to the Fumoto valve, no more removing the plug. Much cleaner when changing the oil. Geno's has the EZ drain valve now.

Thanks guys went with the o reilly plug. MLee I've seen the valve on Genos, always been weary of somehow opening up and draining my oil out.

...... always been weary of somehow opening up and draining my oil out.

Assuming you meant to type leary. I'm over 100 oil changes with my fumoto valve. No leaks, doesn't open up by itself, even when running over road hazards like tire carcasses.

GAmes thanks for giving me reassurance on this I appreciate it. I'm not sure if that was my bad or spelling autocorrect but yes I meant to type leary.

I was like you and questioned the what IF? so I took a small hose clamp and cut an opening for the handle to go through and clamp it down so it won't open and gives me peace of mind that it will stay where I put it.
The clamp is a KK cut with a demal tool, cutting wheel, enough to get over the lever, and tighten down for security.
Did a picture but it won't come up. Sorry

I bought a Fumoto valve early on and do not regret it a bit.
There's a slot and a spring on the valve...it's almost unthinkable that the handle can be both pushed and turned out of the safety slot at the same time within a split second while driving down the road and hitting something.
Money well spent!:)

And thank you Patriot for another reassuring post on the drain valve. Will definitely do this in another oil change or 2. My old oil drain container is finally outdated and leaking at the spout you pour the old oil out of. I bought a new one at Orielly its made by flow tool I believe, and it is useless and could very easily cause severe burns. The drain area is almost flat and when the oil comes out it hits that and splatters everywhere. Had the oil been hot I would've been going to the ER. I looked at the other design that they had and it's not much better. Who makes a descent waste oil container?

IF you get the one with the spout, attach a hose to it, and put it into the receiving hole of the container. NO splash, total control of the flow of the drained fluid.
This is the clamp I have been trying to up-load, look closely and you can make out where I removed some of the teeth, that goes over the handle on the valve to secure it..
