Is there any way to eliminate the electric fuel shutoff solinoid? I am wanting to do it by way of a manual cable so that even if the ignition it turned off, the motor will still run until the cable is pulled. I am thinking of the style that older tractors used.

Is this possible or is it not really feasible with the P7100 due to the three positions of the solinoid? Can I just eliminate the start position on the pump? It it really needed?

Thanks!

Robert

Three positions? I thought that it only had on or off? I zipped tied my shutoff in place last time my solenoid went bad and just cut it when I got home. I don't see any reason why you couldn't just put a pto cable on it.

part numbers

I got this list of part numbers doing a search when I installed my cable shut down. It was not very expensive and works fine. I got the stuff from an international dealer up here.

1 299399C1 Clamp

1 109420R2 Swivel

1 324877C91 Cable

1 371146C1 Knob

1 436747 Screw

1 363423C1 Nut

This is the slickest way to do it. You can also buy a pto cable and fabricate up a bracket for each end and that works well too. If you are making your own, you can make a bracket that uses the old holes for the shutdown solenoid and it should work nicely. Just be aware that you need to find a way to dampen the vibrations or the cable will be noisy in the cab.

Robert, FYI, the 7100 solenoid has 2 positions, on and off. There are 2 coils in it, pull in, and hold in. When the starter is engaged, power is sent to the pull in coil. This is the bigger of the 2. The hold in coil just keeps it running from the key switch (relay). If the pull in goes bad, you can usually turn on the key, push the lever up and it will hold. Then start the truck.

If you wanted to keep this in your conversion, it's easy to hook up.

You guys are awesome! Oo. I would love to see pics of this type of setup so I can fabricate/assemble what I need to make this work! Even the part numbers! WOW!

As for the three positions on the solinoid, duh, I dont know why I thought it was three, like, ummmmm, I better lay off the wacky tobacky..... ;)

Robert

Sorry it took so long, I forgot.

I hope this helps. I removed the solenoid and modified its mounting bracket to make an anchor point for the cable. I drilled a hole at an angle so that I could get the cable housing thru, but when straightened out, it would bind and not slip. The zip tie keeps it there as well as the angle to the shutoff arm.

Awesome! Thanks! I will work on fabricating a seup for mine!

One questions though. What direction is on, and what direction cuts fuel? Lever down cuts, lever up is run? Am I correct?

Thanks again!

Do you have detailed pics of this installed???? I would like pix of the pump and where you have it mounted in the cab. . Thanks Wesley

Just make sure a child doesn't get in and press the clutch. With the fuel cut off cable pushed in it will crank under the right conditions.

This almost qualifies for the HELP! section.

My bracket connecting the Fuel Shutoff Solenoid to the Fuel Pump has FALLEN OFF! I guess the nut loosened because of the vibration and the cotter pin rusted out. So the truck won't shut off with the key now. #@$%!

I noticed that VanOverbeke posted some part numbers, but how about the specific stock piece that connects (via 8mm bolt) to the semi-circular shaped post sticking out of the fuel pump?

I live in NE Illinois, right by the Wisconsin border. Does anyone know where I can get these parts? Maybe a Bosch dealer or Cummins dealer near by? Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry it took me so long to get you pics. I have been out of town with no computer for a month and just saw your post.

Here is what I got. The cable just runs through the firewall into the cab. The little bracket in the under hood shot holds the cable in place. I still need to trim the excess cable off. I have been holding off for some reason. The excess does not interfere with anything.

Sweet ride man. . I like it looks like a nice and easy install... I will definately be doing this when mine goes out. . Thanks for the pics. . Wesley

Wow, talk about bad luck. Even with the cable conversion, you still need the linkage part you are missing. Thought I may have the part you needed till I re-read your post.

We don't have those "rust" problems here, thanking God for that.
