Did a search for help with fuel solenoid and relay, some info but not much. What's the latest info for the "better" solenoid from Cummins? Also would like parts #'s for that part from Cummins, rubber boot for same and relay part # for relay from Radio Shack. Solenoid on my "96, 58,000 miles seems to be acting up. Engine won't shut off with key turned off. TIA jps

Sounds like your starter contacts are worn and need to be replaced. Get info on symptoms, how to fix and buy them here http://www.fostertruck.com/dodge/default.htm he has the relay also for a good price. Do it soon, sticking contacts will take out your expendsive solenoid.

The solenoid is a heavy duty unit that is often replaced needlessly when the problem lies elsewhere. About the only thing that can kill one is sticking starter contacts that cause the lift coils to overheat and fail. Cleaning and lubing the moving parts is often all that's needed.

A section of bicycle innertube and a couple of cable ties is cheaper and actually last longer than the Cummins boot.
