i have a spare used fuel solenoid. no reason to think it is bad. the 3 wires on the harness going to it are black, white, and red.

i supplied 12v from a one of those radio shack power supplies to it by way of black = ground and white=something should happen. and it didn't.

any thoughts on this? what actually goes bad? does it need the power to be fed thru the relay to work?

thanks

Scott,

Are you getting enough amperage from the power supply? Try it from a battery.

How are they supposed to be grounded? Through a wire or just through the bracket holding it to the engine?

There are two coils in that thing, both with a common ground wire. One wire goes to a "pull-in coil" and the other to a "hold-in" coil, the pull-in very much stronger than the hold-in. And yes, you need a battery to test it.

It's the Fuel Shutdown relay, just to the left of the Brake booster.

It's $43 at Carparts.com. Mine was doing the same thing, and not lifting up all the way to allow full fuel flowing.

Good Luck:cool:
