Fuel Solenoid Shot

My friend has a 96 2500 12 valve. His fuel solenoid is not activating when he turns his ignition on and has to manually do it from opening the hood. He priced one from cummings and was told around $278. 00 for the part. Does anyone know where he might be able to do better on a price?

It sounds like the solenoid is holding but will not pull it on. Have you or your friend checked the rest of the electrical? Sometimes it can be the relay which will run $20-30.

Check the relay and the blue fusable link from the battery before you buy a new solenoid.

Radio Shack has a replacement relay for for $6 that works and is the only 30 amp rated relay they have. It will plug in and work even though the blades look different. Its an easy and cheap way to see if thats the problem which most of the time it is. Also you can pull the relay out of the enclosure and clean the contacts and it will work fine, mine has gone 2 years since cleaning.
