I hunted thru all the possible air leaks and checked the overflow valve. Nothing doing. So I went to the Cummins dealer and bought a lift pump. Pulled the old one off and Viola! the spring that keeps the pushrod against the cam was broken in 2 places. Put in the new lift pump. good as new... .

You stated something about wear and the pickup tube moves. Please explain more. I bought a 2001 and have driven it about 5000 miles (just joined TDR). Yesterday i left home and after 3 miles died, cranked and craned and restared, drove another mile, same thing. My fuel gauge read a little less than 1/4 tank. Added 2 1/2 gallons and drove about 5 miles, then filled by adding 27 1/2 gallons. This means that i should have had 3 to 4 gallons left. Drove another 5 miles OK. Except when "running" out of fuel it ran perfect.

This is the second time that i have run the tank this low, the first until until the light came on. Could I have another problem?

Thanks

Russ
