Has any one had any luck with these bottom of tank sumps? I am thinking of changing my Fass pickup from in tank draw straw to a bottom of tank sump.

Yes. Before the sump I would start to get fuel starvation going down hill with a quarter tank of fuel. With the sump, no longer a problem. I highly recommend it.

I see you are in washington. Give plateau diesel a call in enumclaw.

The only thing I've wondered about tank sumps is that all the crap which collects in the fuel tank over years will get sucked directly into the sump. Its either going to keep your fuel tank sparkly clean.....or cause you to replace the fuel filter more frequently.

Couple things...
1. Plateau diesel in Enumclaw (previous name Power Shop) installed my FASS in 2005, they just modified the fuel module, everything worked great till 2016 (11 years later) when the FASS motor quit, but 2,000 miles from my home in AZ. That mechanic in AZ couldn't understand the English directions for FASS so he installed an Airdog (because his brother could help him with Airdog over the phone) But he couldn't get it to so, he installed a Draw straw. And he couldn't get that to work, so he installed a sump. And then turns out he screwed that up and cross threaded one of the screws to the sump, so the sump started leaking couple hundred miles later. Mine is 2 wheel drive, the sump and fuel line to close to ground for me. Anyway finally got it home (after using diapers to catch fuel leak mess) Got one of Vulcans fuel modules and finally found a used fuel tank and re-did the entire fuel supply system.
What part of WA do you live. Still have my old tank with sump and now fixed threads. Even has draw straw, you'll need new plastic straw or use some glue to make air tight, where straw connects to draw straw fitting. But I would not suggest a sump, unless OEM built it as a "one piece" unit. And not something you bolt on aftermarket.

Might be interested I live near Port Townsend. What would you want for it?

I put a sump on my tank to fix the 1/4 tank issue. It worked, but if I did it today I would look at the modified baskets. It was scary drilling a hole in my tank and yes it sticks down so far I had to make a skid plate for it. Other than that it works great. I also left my complete stock system intact as a backup in case my Fass ever fails.

I read your other post about fuel pressure and boost. My old tank (with sump and draw straw) won't do you much good IMO. Little alone driving 6 hours round trip with your problem not isolated yet.
Nobody knows what lift pump you have or working correctly or not. Being you do alright on flat land, venting is not your problem IMO. I would start by testing fuel psi closest to your tank, being you know psi is low at the filter end. If psi checks out for fuel line then trouble shoot your lift pump elec to make sure getting power or not. If elec checks out. Then I would look into your boost pressure, page 14-89 in the FSM or youtube vid's and forum postings. Then if your problem still not isolated, probably means pulling your tank. At that point I would just install your FASS being you already have one. I would mod your fuel module for 1/2 inch lines, which is easy with a few fittings or install a draw straw.
Here is link to FASS trouble guide for their pumps (the"bucket test" on page 2 applies to most pumps)

And here is TSB for "Low Power Or Poor Performance Diagnostic" (some parts of TSB are very helpful)
