So, there I was at the parts counter of my Dodge dealer. Asking about fuel additives, when he GIVES (Free) to me a 12 ounce bottle of "Power Service" Diesel Fuel Supplement. He said to try it and let him know what I think..... Weeeelll, I figure I'm not a complete idiot so, I looked up the name on the net. I found it and, IF one is to believe the sales pitch, Power Service is the preferred brand (47%)amoungst the big-wheel crowd. Still have NOT poured it in the tank... any comments from the big toy drivers?

I don't know about Power service. But I had the same question about amsoil cetane enhancement. So let's here it from you amsoil guys, is the stuff worth it!

From the early 80's to about '95 , I bought the power service in 5 gallon buckets. It was considered the best thing available for all the big rigs, I had 2. The new EPA low sulfur fuel has made injector pump manufactures changes the seals/o-rings in the pumps, you have to check with the pump manufacturer to see what is compatable. Cummin's makes their own additive, and I've been told it is not necessary in the 24V ISB.

The main thing to be concerned about in diesel fuel additives is NO ALCOHOL in the additive. I was at the John Deere counter a short time ago and the very informative parts man told me that they used to use STANADYNE until this year. The Deere engineers tested STANADYNE and said it was not good enough anymore for them. So they designed their own and I am trying it out in my Ford Diesel Tractor. I have used the AMSOIL DIESEL FUEL CONCENTRATE AND AMSOIL CETANE BOOST since day one in the tractor. The AMSOIL cuts out the smoke the best. HOWES FUEL CONDITIONER seems to be at almost every truck stop. Have not tried it. I know that AMSOIL is a highly respected company and their R&D is second to nobody, so I have a great trust for their products. I had a KUBOTA tractor that I sold with 8,000 hours on it and used the AMSOIL CONCENTRATE since day one. The engine was in perfect condition when I sold it.
Keeping the upper cylinders lubricated, keeping the injectors clean, and keeping the fuel pump lubricated is so important for a diesel engine. Getting quality diesel fuel is a problem and using a quality fuel additive is our only safe guard that we have.

Most dealers don't involve themselves with fuel additive knowledge because they need repair business. The sooner you wear out your engine with inferior air filters, oil filters, petroleum oil, and plain low sulfur diesel fuel the sooner they can cash in on repairs and/or sell you a new rig!

I have tried POWER SERVICE in my Ford tractor; the smoke was bad and the engine seem to rattle and knock a lot more. Runs much smoother with AMSOIL OR JOHN DEERE additive.
