Fuel System Air Bleed On The 24-valve

Got a 2001. 5 24-valve standard-output with 5-speed M/T. O. K. , say I run it dry. Get refilled, but how do I bleed the system to get the restart? Ordered the factory 2-volume service manual for my truck, but they only sent the 1st volume, 2nd is back-ordered. That's where the fuel system is covered, of course. Thanks!

you need to loosen 3 or 4 injector lines



bump the starter to get the lift pump going when fuel appears tighten the lines back up then start cranking but only 5 -7 seconds at a time



don't burnout the starter

Thanks for the info - but, isn't there some way involving either the fuel filter or a plug on the injector pump?

I made up a hose that I use when replacing the fuel filter. On the injection pump(vp44), there is a Schrader(sp?) valve located on the injection line coming from the filter housing. I used a old A/C charging hose which has the correct size coupler to screw on to the valve. I attached a piece of clear tygon tubing to the hose and run tubing into a bucket. After a filter change(when the canister is empty), I just bump the starter momentarily and let the lift-pump run until it quits. After 3 bumps, I have about 1. 5 quarts of fuel in the bucket and all the air bled out to the injection pump. The truck will start immediately. This procedure would help if you ran out of fuel, but you still might have to crack the injector lines to aid in a faster start-up after bleeding up to the VP44.
