Somehow replacing a lift pump led to re-doing the entire fuel system and I have a couple questions.

I am removing the stock lift pump and fuel filter cannister and replacing it with a Racor 6120 (120 GPH, 3/8" NPT ports, 10 micron, built in fuel heater, etc). BEFORE my Carter 4601HP fuel pump. Both mounted as far back as I can get near the fuel tank. I'm wondering how on earth I will prime the system when I change filters.

I was thinking about something like a 3/8" NPT "TEE" 3 way selector valve. In on 1 side, out on the other and PURGE on the "down" with a Check valve (lets air/fluid out, nothing back in).

I could shut off the fuel delivery valve (which could also be used for security?), and open up the other valve and turn on the pump without cranking the engine? Would that even work?

Secondly, in the long run I might look at doing double pusher pumps plumbed in parallel for more Fuel, same PSI. Can I just run a check valve between the fuel supply source and EACH pump so that they don't fight with each other... or is there some other way that this would need to be done????

Sorry for the stupid questions Yes I probably should've gotten a FASS but I'm hooked on doing this myself now. It's part of the... . fun!

Sounds like the fuel return on the vp will take care of bleed off. I'd try that setup and bump the starter for its 25 second run and with the flow rate you have it should be all good. If all else fails put a prime switch in.

I think the double is being redundant..... :)

fuel system

My advice would be go with a smaller filter rating. The new specs. for the updated/improved? VP44's is 2 microns on the fuel filters. You will have a heated unit so it shouldn't be a problem gelling. I feel shakey using the 3 micron on my FASS, but it has a ton of filter area though..... we'll see. Just a suggestion. :)
