Hi All:
I have followed with great interest the many threads regarding the fuel system and the need for keeping it clean in 3rd gen trucks. I have installed a GDP MK2+ kit in my 06. I have two questions, one relating to the kit and a second relating to Joe Donnelly's article in Issue 72 regarding fuel systems:
(1) The GDP kit comes with a Fleetguard filter. From the many posts here, I gather thant the CAT IR0750 is preferable. I purchased two CAT filters to use in future filter changes. The Fleetguard filter comes with a sealing o-ring for the center post of the base. , but the CAT filter does not. Does the CAT filter need an o-ring purchased separately or am I good to go without one?
(2) Joe Donnelly states (page 51, issue 72) in his tips for maintaining the HPCR fuel system that CI4+ oil is preferable (pre 07. 5). I understand the reasoning wrt engine wear from other articles and posts, but cannot make the connection between the fuel system and CI4+ rated oil. Insights?
Thanks, Steve Whalen
