Hi All:

I have followed with great interest the many threads regarding the fuel system and the need for keeping it clean in 3rd gen trucks. I have installed a GDP MK2+ kit in my 06. I have two questions, one relating to the kit and a second relating to Joe Donnelly's article in Issue 72 regarding fuel systems:

(1) The GDP kit comes with a Fleetguard filter. From the many posts here, I gather thant the CAT IR0750 is preferable. I purchased two CAT filters to use in future filter changes. The Fleetguard filter comes with a sealing o-ring for the center post of the base. , but the CAT filter does not. Does the CAT filter need an o-ring purchased separately or am I good to go without one?

(2) Joe Donnelly states (page 51, issue 72) in his tips for maintaining the HPCR fuel system that CI4+ oil is preferable (pre 07. 5). I understand the reasoning wrt engine wear from other articles and posts, but cannot make the connection between the fuel system and CI4+ rated oil. Insights?

Thanks, Steve Whalen

the cat filter is a little better filter. it uses a 1-14 thread. if the filter base of the gdp has the 1-14 base you are good to go, the o ring is not needed. the cp3 is lubed from the oil. the ci4 oil has better wear additives than the cj4. to keep from accidently putting ci4 oil in a 6. 7 they outlawed selling ci4 oil in quarts or gallons but it is available everywhere in 5 gallon pales and 55 gallon drums. the dello designation on the drum and pail is dello 400 le for the cj4 and no le on it for the ci4 as you can guess the le stands for low emissions.

The CP3 is fuel lubed as rbattelle said.

The Donaldson P551313 is actually a little better than the Cat Filter, but the Cat is still a good filter, its what I have on my truck right now.

For oil I recommend CI+4, but CJ seems to be working for those that are using it.

My comment on oil (see Issue 72, p. 51) was under the heading "Preventive Maintenance" and was not directly related to the fuel systems article. The first and fourth preventive maintenance items do concern fueling and injectors.
