Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) fuel system suggestions on first 24valve

I just bought my first 24 valve and was looking for suggestions on fuel system upgrades. I don't tow heavy and am not looking to make silly power I just want piece of mind and will add a mild programmer in the future. I have been told to go with airdog. Any suggestions would help. Also what kind of money should i expect to spend.

Fuel psi gauge + AirDog = peace of mind!!

PM me for AirDog dealer. Less expensive upfront AND in the long run (filters are less $$) than FASS.

First things first, get a fuel gauge to see what it is running at now. You may be shocked. I got mine from Geno's, they sell a nice kit that puts the gauge on the dash replacing the small cubby near the radio. it looks factory and works well. Be prepared for a shock. My lift pump was "working" yet I lost pressue when comming off idle, on acceleration it went past zero, indicating vaccume.

I put the fass system on and am quite happy with it. It is a well made system.
 
I simply put on the FASS pump to go along with the factory fuel filter. Added the 275 RV injectors and am very happy. Mileage went up also. :rolleyes:Hey, maybe the new VP-44 helped too. Anyway, GET A FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE!!! mine reads at the VP-44, don't make the mistake of hoping for good fuel pressure.

Yes, fuel psi gauge is the FIRST thing you need to do. I put the airdog on and have been very happy as well. I consistantly run at 13 psi with the factory canister/filter still in place.

While I have the motor all torn apart I think I might just eliminate the factory canister all together, but I kinda like the idea of extra filtration plus the little heater jobby in there as well.
 
For peace of mind running a stock fuel system or any horsepower level that a stock turbo will support, I like an aftermarket lift pump such as the AirDog Raptor

For higher power levels, a big line kit is nice, but stock fuel lines with upgraded banjo bolts will save you some money and still maintain unrestricted fuel flow at stock or mildly upgraded HP levels. City Diesel sells this high flow banjo bolt kit.

More important than any fuel system upgrade is the ability to monitor fuel pressure. A low fuel warning light is the simplest and cheapest way to be alerted of dangerously low fuel psi. Several vendors sell kits similar to this one:

Personally, I prefer a fuel psi gauge to aid in troubleshooting a low psi situation.

Another option if you are planning to buy a tuner is to buy the Edge Juice with Attitude. This nets you a decent box with gauges all in a simple and reasonably priced (not cheap, but not too bad) package.
