Has anybody ever put more than 25 to 27 gallons in these trucks. My manual says I have a 34 gal. tank and even if I run it till my low fuel light comes on when I refill it only takes a little over 25 gals. Is this normal? Is there actually 7 or 8 gals. of unusable fuel left or is Dodge being extra conservative in calibrating these fuel guages?

It's a 34 gal tank and the "low level" light just means you have from 0 to 150 miles left before you run out... :D ... depending on each individual truck's sensor position... ;)

If I stop and fill up as soon as my Lo Fuel alarm comes on, I will still have 8 gals. in the tank. If I run it till it is on empty, I still have 4-5 gals left. Safety feature, I believe, to keep you from running out.

I have a cure for this issue;)

You are supposed to use the pump with the green handle . . not the green hose!!!

SURE! Now you tel me!

I've pumped 35. 5 gallons into my tank. If a diesel could run "on fumes", mine was doing it. No, I didn't spill any; and I don't have any leaks.

Keith, Good one about the green hose!!:D

Green garden hose, funny. Please tell us how you got a tank of water.

I ran into a Ford guy at the pumps who said his one ton only had a capacity of 25 gal. I told him he must have gotten a gasser tank by mistake and that got him wondering. Anyone know it things like that happen?

Garden hose

The station up town musta had a leak in their lid gasket. (or so they said) I was on my way to the "Great White North" to go sledding and stopped to fuel up before heading out of town. Topped off the tank, went in and paid. When I came back out the truck was smoking the whole bloody town up. (small town, and yes, I let it run while fueling) Water in Fuel light was on for the first time in over 65,000 miles! Would barely run. I went in and told them that I just got a tank of water. (they really didn't seem to care, and 4 other trucks in the next 20? hours got wet too) When I went back out to the truck, it was all I could do to get it to limp off to the side. It finally did die and my wife towed me home.

All this about 4+ hours after the lights went out in that big ice storm that went through a few weeks ago. I pulled it in the cold dark shop and proceeded to syphone out what I could and then dropped the tank to get the last of it out. You do realize that the water is the last to come out right. I've been mean'n to get me a new 12 volt trouble light for a few YEARS now. Now was as good'a time as any I guess. LOL!

I didn't see any point in taking it somewhere else to get the work done since I wasn't gunna get to go sledding and I didn't have anything better to do since the power was out. So I dropped it myself. The lights didn't come back on for two more days. :( But then I had to get a new lift pump that I had to order on monday anyhow.

When I bought the truck I wasn't planning on learning any new tricks. I know my way around the old Chevy's quite well, but don't really have the time or the interest to learn the new truck. I now have learned it is best to know what you need to get yourself around these b/c it seems nobody else does, whether it is for interest or survival. I asked some questions on my sledding forums for some help, (lots of sledders have big tow vehicles) and a fella there sent me here. So, here I am.
