I have a 2006 Quad Cab with a short box and I was wondering what the total capacity of the fuel tank is.

I know what is quoted in specs, but is that filling the tank upto the fuel tank neck, or just until it shuts off. I know that my vehicle will take at least 3 gallons after the pump first shuts off.

It hard to determine your fuel range without running the tank to empty, which Itry to avoid.

Thanks

The object here is to be consistent. Each time I fill my fuel tank, I fill it till it stops, wait 20 seconds, then squeeze in another $2. 00 worth. I do exactly the same procedure each time I fill up. You can squeeze in more then $2. 00 if you want, just do the same each time.

Grizzly, only problem I see with that is the price of fuel will affect how much $2 is. Out here in Calif that might get you half a gallon!!

You need to get the Fuel Tank vent kit to be accurate. .

New Mexico now has the dubious distinction of having the highest fuel prices.

According to Flying J there are many other States more expensive then NM for diesel, such Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Washington, Idaho and other states in the midwest.

Go to, flying j.com and click on diesel

That's not true.

Well true, you could take an extra 15 minutes waiting for foam, topping off and purging air to get an accurate reading on mpg.

Just because it clicks off doesn't mean it's at the same level every time. The FTV kit fills the tank quickly and to the brim. It's as accurate as can be.

been to 34 gallons before... . High speed pump, at flying J. truck was still running :) oh an no vent kit, I just pump and leave.

I fill it til it clicks, lift the nozzle a bit, hand feed another gallon until it clicks again and call it done.

I burn 1-2 tanks a day and only do the math after 100-150 gallons or so and my numbers are as accurate as it gets.

In fact, I could fill it and record odometer reading. And over the next couple of days, just prepay a certain dollar amount not worrying if it's full, but recording how many gallons I'm pumping. Then after say 1,500 miles or so, fill it, record the odometer reading, and be just as accurate as you.

Your first option has too many variables to be exact. Your numbers are as accurate as your foam.

Your second option will give you more correct result- If you fill a set amount each time, and never go over. And why have to wait to 3 tanks to figure it out? It's easy enough just to install the FTV and fill it to the brim each time. Peace of mind, fast, and completely accurate.

This is just a normal trip to the pump, not meant as calculating mileage.

I never calculate a single tank. Calculating a single tank is worthless to me.

The short bed tanks are 34 gallons, I have filled up 34. 5 gallons on fumes one time to the third click.

I have since did the fuel tank mod, and the tank holds 37. 75 gallons to the first click.
