fuel tank fell off HELP the Cows are hungry.

My 1990 fuel tank band broke yesterday and broke the fuel lines. dealer said they dont make that part any more. I tried the local NAPA store but they told me it was a dealer only part .

Where did it break at?



Did the frame rust out where the band anchors behind the tank?

They are now junkyard only parts. The should be the same straps 81-93 1/2-1 ton models. I've seen guys using ratchet straps to hold the tank up on one end:-laf.

the back strap broke and the return line into the tank. (small plastic tip that hooks onto the fuel line)

my freind had one break about 2 months ago on his '91 ...



local dealer had the strap in a couple of days ...



when we looked at it the strap was fine but the frame "pocket" had rusted out ...



he said he was gonna take the strap back to dealer, i've got a call into my freind to see if he actually did take the strap back ...

If it is just the strap. You could take a piece of 16 ga flat steel and weld it into the bad place. I have repaired many tank straps over the years. GM cars were bad about straps rusting threw in this area.



If the frame mountings had rusted out. I fixed Case500D's old truck by welding a piece of angle to the end of the strap and then bolting the angle to the cross member.

The 90 (farm truck) I just bought has dog chain where the rear strap broke. Feeding those Moo's is tough on Dodge trucks !

To be fair, in my youth I had a rust free 65 Chev carryall drop a full gas tank in the middle of I-94. I was puzzeled at what could of fell off as truck kept running ? I backed up a 1/4 mile, put tank in back of carryall, reatached fuel hose, and continued trip, after a short thank you prayer ! After that, if I plan to keep the vehicle, I make my own straps. (heavier duty)

the straps are not the problem the fuel tank sending unit , where the fuel lines hook up is the part no stores have or make, unless you guys know of somthing different. A friend told me it was the same as a gasser without the internal fuel pump????????????
