Has anyone got any news on the fueling problems with the new Rams. I just got back from a 6000 mile trip to see my Grand kids and trying to fill my 03 at the truck stops was exciting to say the least. The big truck pumps really make a mess as the blowback from the high speed pumps throws fuel all over the place. You have to go real slow and this honks off the truckers a bunch.

Has Dodge even addressed the issue as yet or have some of you come up with a fix yet.

Thanks

Rollie

Just got back from a hunt in Colorado. Filled at several truck stops and never had a problem with the large nozzle as long as you held it at the proper angle. If you just let it hang, it did spit back.

I think the problem is topping off the tank. Even using the small nozzle running at the first click (slow), I can get 3 to 5 more gallons in after the shut off clicks the first time. Problem is it takes 10 to 15 minutes to get those last few gallons in, and that's running the fuel very slow. Foam in the filler neck, shut off, let foam go down, pump again until the foam is in the neck. I know not everyone has this problem but a lot of us do. And it's a pain.

Never have that problem!LOL. I'm not THAT worried about topping off a tank. I run it till it clicks, round off the number$ and I'm gone. :D

2nd try to post this

I usually use the big rig pumps, the one farthest from the store. These usually dont have enough room to pull up and clear the pump w/o blocking the other lanes in. Most 18s wont use them because of this. I then pull around to the car parking and do the other business.

My problem seem to be with the overflow tube, the one on the side of the filler. The foam/fuel gets in this and then splashes out when it hits the nozzle. Has anyone dropped the tank and checked to see if these tube are too darn long for the tank? If so how much did yours stick in? Most of the time its a short fill time to top it off, but with the winter blend now = more foaming, it takes a little longer but not 5 min.

And, what other state(s) besides AZ dont we want to use the big rig pumps? AZ big rig fuel is more, road taxes, than car diesel. Only way to get car price (w/o hassle to get a rebate on the extra tax) is to use the RV or car islands.

I've never had a problem. It spits a little and it shuts off without spilling fuel. I don't try to top it off, though, I stop when it clicks off or sometimes I squeeze a little more just to be sure. If I have to hold the handle, I can get an angle where it doesn't spit and I'll feather it down when it gets near to full.

Mine tries to give me diesel showers.

Mine spits, sprays and splashes all at the same time.

That vent line shoots fuel sideways in the filler neck well before I get a full tank. The only way I can advoid it is by just trickling it in. A real pain. I don't top off unless I'm going on a long trip. With an extra 50 in the aux, it really helps to fill up at Georgia prices. :)

Never a problem here - I run the big nozzle full speed till it shuts off. I don't care about toping it off so maybe thats why I don't have a problem.

Topping off is a PITA. There's another thread somewhere, but no solution yet to my knowledge. Takes me about 10+ minutes to get in that last 3. 5 to 4. 5 gallons.

No real problem here...

This problem seems to be less with my '04 than it was with the '03. I only tried "topping off" the '03 once and after I made a mess I never tried it again. The '04 seems to fill higher before that first click and the gauge reads full.

I am with Prarie dog and DPKetchum, just fill it up, round it off, and get back on the road. This is the first vehicle I have ever had with a 500+ mile unloaded range on a tank of fuel and I need to stop to stretch the legs and take a leak about every three hours anyway.

Hell I know what brothers one man won't another but if you really want to cram as much fuel as you can in it just by a extra tank! I 'm not about to stand there and take the time to wait for foam to dissipate etc. Fill it up,round off the numbers and begone.

The only reason I like to top off is to get accurate mpg readings. But, I get tired of waiting and don't top off if there is someone waiting in line. I keep track of each fill in a spreadsheet. Even though I may not be topping off (and therefore not getting an accurate mpg calculation on an individual tank basis) , I would think that after a long period of time, the average would be fairly accurate. After 25 fills, my average milage is 17. 76 mpg.

Me, too. I have to think that some guys get a half tank of foam at the truck stop and figure the mileage at 26 mpg. That one time is the only one that you will ever hear about when you ask him about the mileage;) . I go the extra couple of minutes to fill up unless someone is waiting. I am especially careful to top it off when traveling with the fiver.

I got to where I leave my info disply on temp and compass. The mileage is what it is. I rarely check mileage in anything unless it just seems to be WAY off. I fill,I drive until it needs more and do it again. I got tired of watching the mpg numbers and wished it wasn't there. So I very seldom switch to it. the novelty wore off.

I have never topped off the diesel truck, just bottom out the nozzle in the fill tube, don't want the hassle of a possible "burp out" of fuel. Normally don't even round it off either. If you want to keep accurate say same fuel each time I would think you should use the same pump each time and park the same way to get a accurate reading. The fuel gauge on mine always reads past full mark. Alot of my driving is dealing with stop lights and stop signs and I still have hand calculated 16. 0 to 16. 5 which is impressive to me for a auto one ton 4x4 truck. :D
