You guys are ALL against the law with the DOT. You should NOT have a gravity feed fuel system at all. You can install From NAPA an P4601HP diesel fuel pump, stay away from the Holly pumps especially the RED pump as it will not pump diesel in lower temps. Also from NAPA they have Pollock dual tank switch than you only use 1/2 of to shut off the gravity feed of the fuel. Go to a marine supply and get a fuel sending unit and mount this in the tank to a guage on the dash. Another thing is to use a top of the tank fuel pickup as in a marine application. For lots of Ideas on this type of tank and fuel supply installation do a search of what others have done, there are lots of good ideas on the TDR. Just my 2 cents on a safer aux fuel supply.

This has been beaten to death... but I am pretty sure you are mistaken.

You cannot gravity feed an engine using an auxiliary, but you can gravity feed a tank. Minor detail you should know. There is no law against having an auxiliary tank gravity feed into a belly tank.

If there is, its not enforced as I run my truck through state inspection every year... and they know full well I have a gravity feed system.

Hi SteveD

You could be right. But a fuel flow switch and a pump pulling the fuel from the top of the tank would lesson the chance of a fuel spill because of the constant pressure of the gravity system??? . At the price of fuel I would hate to lose a drop. Also if I was parked in my blacktop drive way or any ones blacktop it would really make a mess. In todays age it could really wave a red flag in front of some green weanie and bring down somebody on our heads about aux tanks in trucks and the way they are plumbed in. Life is easier when the water is just rippling and does not have big waves.

Been running this way for two years...

I have only had one mishap, and that was my own fault for forgetting the pump was on and I overfilled the main tank while driving, forcing fuel out the rollover valves.

By gravity feeding, I never overfill the main tank (no chance of pumping fuel on the ground) and it never leaks a drop, even when left sitting for weeks on end.
