Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) P Pump the 24 valve?

I dropped my fuel tank on my 01, to work on the sending unit for faulty fuel gauge. I pulled this big unit out of the tank and there is a sending unit, but my truck had not ever had the upgraded in-tank fuel pump installed. I am wondering what to do? Should I installed the upgrade(per Dodges recall?) or just install a new sending unit from Geno's?
The truck runs and drives fine, I have a Raptor lift pump and Isspro fuel pressure gauge. Truck is bone stock. Napa has the unit(with pump) for about $ 250. If I do put the pump in the tank how do you get power to it?? Just to be clear my only problem is a faulty fuel gauge.
Thanks all and have a good day.

I definitely would not install the upgrade with fuel pump. Just buy the Geno's kit and be done with it. The raptor is a good pump and if you had the intank pump, you'd have to pump through that with your raptor. Dropping that tank is no fun and if the intank pump quits, then you've got to do it all over again. Plus, you've got to pick up the wire under the hood and extend it to the tank to power it.

I would rather have the external pump kept in place myself, I would not want an in tank pump. Easier to fix the raptor later if it ever needs it. Good time to change out the fuel hoses, upgrade with marine rated stuff. With fresh hoses and a new sending unit, it will last many more years.

I did the same thing last weekend. Dropped the tank, installed new draw straw, changed the fuel level sender, eliminated the return T at the filler neck, installed new marine grade Trident hoses to the engine fuel filter, and the return from the FASS to the new draw straw- much cleaner then the cut filler neck. I hope now my fuel level sender will work fine.
I would not install a retrofit kit on our 2 gen trucks.

I didn't think about eliminating the return T in the filler neck for my Air Dog with the properly installed draw straw. Thought never crossed my mind, my return splice works fine though and I can run down past empty with fuel light for way too long. The fuel gauge is too conservative actually, I found that out one day by pushing it 60 miles past fuel light and it never coughed. Whats the advantage of not using the filler neck for return?
