Hello. I have a 97 Dodge Cummins 4x4 x-cab auto. I had to remove the fuel tank due to a leaking fuel line. Unfortuneately while removing the tank I broke off a plastic fitting on the fuel sending unit assembly trying to remove the fuel line. Two questions: #1. Is there a special tool for removing these fittings? If you don't have a tool what is the trick for removing them without damaging anything? #2. When I reconnect the tank I'm now not sure which line goes where. Looking at the fuel lines attached to the frame, is the fuel line above the return line or vise versa? Thanks in advance for any info.

Look at the links in post #3 here.

You can use a wire tie or tywrap to get the fuel line fittings to let go, just put the tie around the tabs and tighten it down, it will put pressure on both sides and it will slide out.
Vulcan makes a monster called a draw straw, that will fit in the stock hole for pickup and return. Here.
Vulcan compound turbo components, FireBall injectors, DrawStraw™, Big Line Kits, VP silicone boot kits, gauge installation components, metric adapters & fittings, FASS, Quadzilla, Edge,AirDog, DTT Trans, ISSPRO, HTT Turbo, AFE, Veg pumps,  brackets,
Good luck.

No need to worry about the quick disconnects. Remove both halves of the plastic retainer, and a piece of rubber fuel line will slip right over the ends and clamp them. Easy fix.

3/8" line on the suction and 5/16" on the return.

My fuel lines were rusted between the fuel tank and frame as well. Just cut the bad length of steel fuel line back to where it was still good. Ran new diesel rated rubber fuel line from there to the tank fittings.
