I'm thinking of replacing the OEM tank on my truck with a 56 gallon aftermarket tank from Transfer Flow. They will do the install as well. Will this installation be legal in California? Will the dealer mess with my warranty? Does the new tank mess with any of the computer information or overhead display information? Anybody know or have recommendations other than transfer flow? I've heard decent reviews and they're within 2 hrs so I don't have to mess with the install. Don't want a tank in the bed as I need the space. Any and all input or experiences with this setup is appreciated! Thanks!

CooperJohn, 2hrs from Clayton to Chico... WOW! I don't think you will have any warrantee issues and judging from the Transfer Flow site they are all over any legal/reg issues. I get an extra 4+ gallons in my stock tank via the vent kit and the computer doesn't know about the extra fuel so my overhead computer now reads about 4. 2 mpg high on a tank. I will be watching to see if someone knows how to update the computer with the extra tank capacity.

I should clarify. It's 2 hours and 20 minutes at 3 am during Duck Season. Otherwise we'll call it an easy 2 hrs and 45 minutes via River Rd. Thanks for the reply. I don't think it's possible to reprogram the trip computer but that darn thing isn't accurate anyway. Still, it would be nice to be close. With the replacement tank I should be getting 30 miles per gallon!

CooperJohn, Yea, I have no problem getting 23 mpg on the overhead! Have to admit, I enjoyed giving a friend who has an F350 a lift and I just pointed to the readout without providing any explaination...

CooperJohn,

I called Transfer Flow a while back. They said they have no way to calibrate or correct the overhead computer. your fuel gage will read accurately.

i have 6 transfer flow tanks in service currently. three 05 chevy 4x4, three 02 ford f450 4x4. we have had no problems, no issues in 5 years. the chevys ar replacement tanks and the fords are secondary tanks with their fuel tansfer system. love them all!
