2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Fuel Tank Sending Unit

Anybody ever replaced there sending unit. how hard of a job is it. 1996 3500

You have three choices,you drop your tank, or you lift off the bed, or like i did and raise the bed on the driver side enough to pull the module out of the tank. Everyone has the one they like best. Randy

Check out the pictures in my Readers Rigs on the fuel tank removal / Vulcan drwa straw install. This will give a bit of an idea of difficulty. My beer rating was a 2 on a scale of 1-4, 4 being most difficult. -MHO

I dropped the tank. The entire operation took about 4 hours, not a big deal. I used a floor jack to support the back half of the tank and made a rope sling to support the front half. Run the tank nearly dry before you begin. My Dodge service manual showed how to remove the quick disconnects. Might have been harder without that info.

Can you desribe how those fuel lines come off the sender. Is there a clip holding the line on or do you sqeeze and pull back somehow?

Don't mess around dropping the tank. It's MUCH easier to unbolt the bed and tilt it like a dump truck. Remove all the bolts except the very back two. Back the rear two nuts off until flush with the end of the bolts. Remove the ground wire, stretch a strap across the front tie downs in the bed and use a cherry picker to tilt the bed. The sender is right there. No need to drain the fuel or wrestle the tank.
