I've searched the forum but haven't found exaclty what I'm looing for. My truck is a model year 1990 (made in 1989). I have the original Chrysler release form which lists a 22 gallon fuel tank and a 8510 GVR. The back of my owners manual says 30 gallons. My fuel guage read full for the first 6 gallons and around 3/4 empty I can put 21 gallons in (17 at half). My low fuel light has never come on and I thought I didn't have one.

Could it be that the Chrysler form is wrong and the manual is correct and I have a 30 gallon tank?

Please keep in mind mine's a 1990.

Thanks,

Brian Toscano

If you can get some rough measurements you can get close... .

231 cubic inches per gallon

I have an early 91 and it is about 30 gallons.

But when my gage reads 1/4 I still have 1/2 a tank... . the gages are not dead on by any means.....

Tank size...

When mine is at half, I can put 11 to 12-gallons of fuel, I think my is a 22 gallon tank. The owners manual list both sizes. Is there any other way to varify the size? PDT.

Around that time frame, with gasser Rams, the 22 gallon tank was standard and 30 optional. I think only the 30 was used with the Cummins. If you look on the tank, the size is molded into it where they have date codes, etc. You could also compare with ones in a junkyard as they are quite obviously different in size.

I checked the tank for codes 1-2 weeks ago and didn't see anything that indicated size. I guess I'll check again. Thanks all for the information.

My build sheet from the dealer says I have a 26 gallon tank but it is really a 30. I have put in as much as 28 gallons without running out. I'm almost positive all diesels 89-93 had a 30 gallon tank. My fuel light always comes on with 4-5 gallons left.
