I have an 05 and the problem is filling the diesel tank all the way, the last few gallons take forever, does anyone have a fix? I have been thinking of changing the vent line to a larger one, but it looks like I will have to drop the tank.

Do a search for vent mod and you will find hundreds of posts.

The mod is one of the best mods I have done on my truck. Do it sooner than later and enjoy it everytime you fill up your tank.

I second Bob's statement... the Vent Kit is the best single mod you can make! It is wierd to drive 150 - 175 miles before the needle moves off the far right peg! I'm logging 4K miles a month, this kit has saved me a bunch of time.

I searched for about a week trying to come up with everything I would need to build my own vent kit. I gave up and just ordered it from spooled-up. I should have done that in the first place. All the research has been done for ya by Spooled-up.

Best mod i've done to my truck bar none.

I ordered, recieved, and still have not installed the Fuel Mod. Not because I dont want it, its just I have not had time to. I hate having a Job. hahaha

Thanks for all the kind words guys. So far I've sold around 400+ kits. I really appreciate the support of the guys on these forums.

Dave,

Thank you for all the work you put into the kit. Even though the first version was entirely workable, I understand you've improved it 2 or 3 more times.

You gotta like a guy who cares.

Thanks again

Bob

I had one on my 04. 5, and just installed it on my 06 Megacab. Easy to install the first time, and a piece of cake the second time.

Just an FYI to all those megacab owners, you'll need to order the SWB kit. David asked me to verify the tank size before I ordered. Now we know

Oh yeah... David is a great guy to work with. I got both of my kits 3 days after I ordered. The first time I installed, I called him on his cell phone and he walked me through the fuel line removal (that is actually the hardest part of the removal if you have never dosconnected them before).

That's where I am stuck at. Tried several times to remove the smaller fuel line but have been unsuccessful. Now I'm just waiting for warm weather before trying again.

Doc,

It can be done with just one person. Both times I've done it, I did it myself. Depending on how many breaks you take and how fast you work, I would say an average time to do the mod would be about 4 hours give or take. I've heard of people taking less than an hour at a bomb party where they just did one, and some taking 6+ hours. Sometimes that one fuel line "quick" connect is anything but quick. Most that have done the mod with the old style tank module (pre '05) can tell you how much of a pain that little clip is. If you have an '05 or newer, you have the new style tank module where the lift pump is in the tank and they spaced the fuel lines out to the side so you can actually get your fingers on both of them.

Doc,

SDpooled-up is right... one person can do it easilly in 4 hours... just be sure you run the tank down to virtual empty. I did it in my garage, put the left rear on a jack stand and removed the left rear tire (NOT necessary, just made access a little easier). I used a couple of cable ties to release the fuel line connects, one in particular was tough to get fingers on but not too hard to slip a cable tie around, cinch it up to depress the paws holding the connectors.

It would definitly be easier with two people though, you loose a lot of time crawling out from under the truck to get another beer...

I had trouble with that, and I finally ended up unhooking the fuel lines from the frame, several hangers forward of the tank, then you can set the tank on the ground and easily unhook the lines. At least it worked for me.

Definitely drive the truck to empty. I went to 6 miles DTE and the tank only had maybe 2 gallons in it. On my 04. 5, I went to 0 DTE and the tank had 5-6 gallons in it.

David's directions are very clear and easy to follow.

The key to the fuel line disconnects is pressing the two tabs equally before pulling the line. If you only get one of the tabs pressed completely it will come out slightly but won't disconnect. You can tell you are almost getting it because if you push the line back in you will hear a click. You have to feel around the fuel line connection for the tabs. They aren't in any particular orientation.

As an anology, the technique is like pinching the tail off a shrimp. You want to squeeze the tabs and push the line back out with the fingers that are pinching. I was only able to get one hand in there to do this.

It took me about 1 1/2 hours. I did it myself, but raising/lowering the tank is a lot easier with 2 people.
