I did it myself, but raising/lowering the tank is a lot easier with 2 people.

Ditto with this comment. It took me about 1 hour with a friend. Depending on how you lower and raise the tank (I used a jack and a piece or wood) it is easier for two people to balance it to put it in.

I had trouble with that, and I finally ended up unhooking the fuel lines from the frame, several hangers forward of the tank, then you can set the tank on the ground and easily unhook the lines. At least it worked for me.

Good idea, I'll try it! Thanks

I just purchased my tank vent kit from Dave this weekend. Stopped by his house, and we didnt have perfect change so he trusted me to pay him via paypal when I got home!!!! (TDR people are some of the gratest!!!) I am fixing on working on this mod sometime this week!!! Thanks for all the advise!

I would sure like to do this mod to my truck... . BUT, I has ask: What will this do to my warranty?

Obviously most items would not be affected, but any thing related to fuel delivery/ drivability/ performance (lack of) etc... could realistically be denied.

fkovalski,

I have actually had a couple of dealers install this mod on a couple of trucks. I don't know which dealers did the work, but I can imagine a different dealer having a whole different feeling about it. What I'm getting at is that you'll get a range of what will affect the warranty and what won't. I would think realistically that this would only void the warranty on the actual tank itself, as would any reasonable person, but I'm sure some dealers would disagree.

You could always ask your dealer what they would do if you made a modification like this.

I'm sure thier shop would install the mod, but I don't believe they will back it up as a factory warranty. They would probably do it as a 'cash' job. In a similar instance: I had asked if a dealer would drill and tap the E manifold for a pyro probe. They would do the job for a fee, but DC would not cover it in the event of a failure. I imagine the tank vent would be the same.

I will ask them for thier thoughts, but it may be like described above. If this is the case I will forgo the mod till post 100K, till then I'll keep pi$sin' off Ferd drivers behind me with my 25 minute fill- ups :D

I think you guys convinced him. I've been in contact with him and he's interested in a kit.

Here's something to think about:

Lets say the kit saves you 10 minutes at the pump each fillup. If you have the truck for 100000 miles, you will need about 182 fillups at 550 miles per tank. 182 fillups X 10 minutes = 30 hours and 20 minutes EXTRA spent at the pump. I thought our time was more valuable than that (as did the wife) and I had to find a solution.

Just something to think about.

ABsolutly! I agree with you and all the benifits... Just trying to weight the time benefits vs. cost implications should a warranty issue arise.

The vent mod is probably the best thing I've done to my truck so far. WELL worth the $ and time. After reading about it here on the TDR, I too used a zip-tie to unlock one of the connectors. Just goes to show one more time how valuable this site is!
