Fuel Consumption Calc
For those of you that have more time than money (like me) here is the simple calulation:
Average b5. 9 engine has a BSFC (Brake Specific Fuel Consumption) of about . 300 across the curve under full load. (Rough Average)
That is . 300 pounds of fuel per Horsepower per hour.
Diesel #2 Fuel is 7. 1 pounds per gallon.
For 1000 HP, take 1000, times . 3, or 300 pounds of fuel. Divide the 300 punds by 7. 1 and get 42. 25 gallons per hour.
Now how long does it take to run the pull? In a 9. 1 second pass for us, (only during the run, no burnout) it would take . 7 gallons per minute, or . 106 gallons in a pass.
By the way, we are not at the 1000 HP level... ... Just an example.
Take the same factors and apply it to a long tractor pull, and you can see where the fuel goes. Also, as we are all SLIGHTLY overfuelled, you could take the . 300 to about . 4 or . 45 to get more accurate.
