Fuel

I'm sure this subject has been covered before, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. My question is this: can the Cummins diesel engine operate on the same fuel that the 18 wheelers use?

Yes, its all the same #2 Diesel fuel. Some staes dye there truck fuel and have a different sulfur content but it can all be used in your truck without any harm. I fill up at truck stops all the time

The fuel is the same but be careful not to run it in at full pressure I think it could damage the fuel tank sending unit. These units are kind of fragile and those big truck nozzles really put out some volume and pressure. JMHOP

You won't have a problem this time of year, but in the winter months - make sure the fuel you get from the truck stops is #2 diesel and not #1. Some of the northern stations have both in the colder months, and you can't use straight #1 without additional lubrication additives. #2 also includes more cetane content, and consequently provides better fuel economy (assuming it's warm enough not to gel the fuel!).

Ditto on keeping the pump nozzle pressure down a little bit. I filled my truck at the local high-volume truck stop once, and it topped off my measly 28 gallons in LESS than 40 seconds. Talk about pump volume! That's an awful lot of tank turbulence to move such a large amount of petrol in so little time.

Hey guys,i've heard there is a guy with a choker running his dirty motor oil from all of his farm equipment,don't know if he had to change injecters or anything else. I know there is waste oil furnaces available that will burn [anything] flamable this is true,they also make water heaters and boilers,unfortunetly I can't install this stuff here in good ol california. but I might get one for shop anyway. We only have Meijer's here in the Midwest states (and now a few in KY too), most guys probably don't know what we are talking about.

My opinion, FWIW, is to not buy fuel from Meijers or any other station that doesn't do a high volume of diesel fuel (the Meijers around here don't have the facilities for big rigs to fill up). By a high volume I mean thestation should have the ability for the big rigs to come in a fill up. I think you will get much better quality fuel this way.

Also, here in western lower Michigan I have never seen a station selling #1 diesel fuel, only winterized #2.

What is Premium diesel #1or #2?

In most cases, "premium diesel" is diesel that exceeds some of the requirements of #2 diesel. But so far, there is not a legal or industry-wide accepted definition of exactly what Premium Diesel is, so the term can be used as a marketing claim by anybody and may or may not mean much depending on how reputable the seller. I spoke with the people at Meijer's here in Northwest Indiana, and they get their diesel from Mobile. While they don't sell to rigs, they always have diesel trucks from all over the area filling up.

Diesel fuel is diesel fuel - there are rare cases that you will find a pump with straight #1 fuel but it will always be marked that way - DEFINATELY do not fill up with all #1. If it's labeled Diesel, Diesel #2, or Premium Diesel you SHOULD be ok. However, I've always been paranoid about buying fuel at a new location and now I REALLY know why - see this post, https://www.turbodieselregister.com/ubb//Forum5/HTML/001162.html . I got a bad load of fuel from a Shell station and it's been a nightmare to deal with, $300 and 7 hours of my time later my truck is running right again - but they REFUSE to do anything about it. I figured since it was a Shell station (major supplier) that I'd be ok - the lesson here is that you can get bad fuel anywhere, IMHO it is FAR less likely at a truck stop because they are pumping so much more fuel than auto stations plus if a trucker had to deal with what I have he probably would have just driven his truck through the front of the store (NOT that I haven't been tempted)!!
JMHO - but fill up at that truck pump you were scared of as much as possible!!
